This review is a first for me, but I feel strongly enough about this product that I wanted to provide comments on it.
Background: We had a bed (coil spring) that was more than 15 years old and had seen better days. It was a good bed and functioned well for many years, but I kept it far too long. After a month of research, including trying out upscale coil-spring mattresses, foam pad beds, and various brands of air mattresses, my wife and I decided to order the Comfortaire Cerulean mattress.
We placed an order with Nationwide Mattress, and in addition to the mattress ordered service including a foundation and setup and haul-away of the old bed and shipping materials. As part of the order from Nationwide we also received free accessories: bed linens, mattress pad, and 2 pillows. We were told delivery of the bed would occur in 2 to 4 weeks.
The accessories arrived first and in good condition. But after a month we did not have the bed. I called Nationwide Mattress and they contacted Comfortaire, identified the problem, confirmed the shipping dates, and offered to send us a bonus pack of down comforter and additional linen set for our trouble (of course I accepted, Im cheap).
Approximately one week after my conversation with Nationwide, the bed was delivered. Two guys from a shipping company (they seemed to be local) hauled out the old bed from upstairs, adjusted the frame (the old bed was a California King and the new bed is a Standard/Eastern King), and set up the new foundation, mattress, air pump and controls, and hauled away the shipping wrap and boxes. The guys were prompt and polite and worked quickly, but I noticed (after they left, of course) as I read the instructions, that they had not assembled the bed correctly. I redid the assembly and let the memory foam air out to resume its full shape. I also left the bedroom window open and the fan going, since I read some comments about the bed smelling rubbery at first. Within that afternoon the memory foam pad had expanded completely (it is very compressed in shipping), I zipped up the top, made the bed (with the bonus linens) and waited for the missus to arrive.
And the verdict is: we love this bed!
Heres some vital statistics: I am big: about 300 lbs and over 6 feet tall. I am also near 50 years of age. I had two main problems with the old coil spring mattress. As it had aged, and despite being turned, it had developed lumps and sags. I would toss and turn repeatedly at night, and woke up sore and stiff.
During my life I have slept on floors, bare ground, futons, waterbeds, sofas and sofa beds, reclining chairs, camping pads and air pads, hammocks, and coil-spring mattresses. The Comfortaire bed is the most comfortable mattress I have ever slept on, followed by the waterbed and a good futon. We both notice that we move less as we sleep, and thus far I dont wake up stiff and sore in my back and hips. At this point I am still experimenting with the firmness control, but seem to do best with an 80% filled setting. My wife and I are both sleeping better, and are happy with this purchase.
And yes, as promised, we received a down comforter and additional bed linens set. It arrived just yesterday. Nationwide Mattress did everything they said they would.
