Compaq Presario 2715US Power on problems (Reply to this comment)
by rica319
Hello,
I just purchased this Compaq Presario 2715US system off eBay. It seems to be working fine except for on initial power on after being off for several hours, the laptop just gives a white screen and does nothing. Then after about a minute, the white screen turns black and just sits there --does not even show the logo. Then if I power it down and turn it back on, depending on how long it's been off, it would still show that white screen until maybe 4-5 times doing the power on/power off routine, only then will the compaq logo come on and the laptop will boot. I have read some people who had the same model had power on problems but they said that theirs would hang on the compaq logo/before boot up. Mine does not even boot until doing a power on/power off routine 4-5 times if the laptop has been unused for a day or about 2-3 times if it's only been off a few hours. Any thoughts on this? I appreciate any info you could give.
thanks,

Re: GAMING? (Reply to this comment)

Hi David,
The 2715US comes with the ATI Mobility Radeon M6 Graphics chipset with 16MB memory, most new games out will support the Radeon chipset and the memory is decent for performance. The hard drive RPM speed will affect the performance, but not much becuase the data bus is much better with an UltraDMA controller. Just make sure the games you want to play support the Radeon chipset, which most will because it's a common chipset on desktop PCs as well. If you want the most high end gaming machine, I don't recommend purchasing a notebook for this purpose, just because you can't change the video card down the road. But the 2715US will be able to play most of the games out today with decent performance, but it probably won't be able to play new games as well a year from now because of the increasing hardware demand from games.
Do some research on the performance of the ATI Mobility Radeon M6 in the games you want to play to see if it meets your needs. Some good sites to start at are:

Hope this was helpful!

GAMING? (Reply to this comment)
by davidkk5
Nice review jumperless. I am thinking about purchasing the 2715US and I am wondering how the gaming on this machine is, could you give me some insight please? davidkk5@hotmail.com The 2715US comes with 16MB Ram on the radeon. I also have read that the 30 G HD is only 4200 RPMs... how does this effect the performance?
Thanks,
David.
