As most of you know, I work in the computer department of a retail chain so although I'm not an expert, I do know a lot about the computers that I sell. I not only try them out while they're displayed on the floor but I also set computers up for customers so I get to check them over real well!
Now, if you're a person that loves a computer with a lot of extras on them then this one is not for you! This basically is what I'd like to call "a starter computer" and what I mean by that is, it's good for the beginner who is just looking to surf the web and do e-mail! It doesn't come with a lot of bells or whistles but it gets the job done! I've set up quite a few of these and as far as I can see, it does a nice job!
It's a 566MHz with an Intel Celeron Processor that runs at a decent rate of speed! It only comes with 64MB of windows ram and a 10GB hard drive so if you're planning on loading a lot on the system, you should consider another computer with more loaded on it! There are a couple of empty bays so you have the option of adding a CDRW and/or a Zip Drive down the road if you wanted to!
It comes with Microsoft Windows 98 (second edition) preloaded on it and has all the basic programs such as Microsoft Works 2000 for your word processing and spreadsheets and Microsoft Money 2000 for your finances! On disk, you get Microsoft Word 2000 which is also for word processing and things of that nature and Encarta Encyclopedia 2000 for your reference! The games that are preloaded on this unit (as with most units) are Freecell, Solitaire, Minesweeper and Hearts! For those of you that want to check out the internet first without committing to anyone first, you have NetZero (free internet) on the system and a variety of internet services that offer you a free trial period (usually 30 days) in your Online Services folder!
For the low price of $599.99 (in our store), you're getting a decent computer and if you want to add something to it later on, that option is also available! I would highly recommend this to anyone starting out or someone that doesn't want to spend a whole lot of money! Add a 15" Compaq monitor and a Compaq printer and you're talking less than $800.00 after Compaq rebate! Not a bad deal at all so check it out!
