Pros: -Super long range 2-way receivers. -Always turns my car on. -Every feature you'd want.
Cons: -Do not attempt to install if you're not a pro. -Slimmer LCD receiver please....
After going through a lot of forums and review website, I decided to go w/ CompuStar because people with newer cars that required additional features went with CompuStar because of this support. When I got my package the box has so many bells and whistles, I was excited to install it. The box came with:
-The main unit (brain)
-RF antenna (very long for wide broadcasting)
-LED for intruder prevention
-Some sort of tap unit (sorta like the keypad entry for cars, i dont use this)
-(2) 2-way keychain Receivers, one w/ LCD, one basic.
-Necessary relays, wires, and switches.
After installing it was satisfied on how the system worked. Pairing the receivers was a breeze. After some initial trial-and-error I finally got the car to remotely start. The receiver would give a beep to say "i sent the message" then beep twice to say "your car is on" and show the little exhaust blowing on the LCD screen. you can turn it off to if you press the button again.
Too many features to name that you can do with this unit... but anything you really want it to do, you can set it.
This unit can actually do a little bit more if you have authorized CompuStar retailer near you... I didnt. But they have some sort of programming tool that you can set two 'Auxiliaries' for on the unit. I actually wanted to set these to roll my windows up/down but again, I didnt have the programming unit or a retailer near me.
Says it reaches up to a mile? Prolly does! I have never been a whole mile away from my car, but I can tell you I have been HELLA far from my car in woods, parking lots, inside buildings, and other places and my car always starts from my unit. Given, it prolly turns on from a mile if it's a clear shot, but who is really going to be a mile away from their car and try to turn it on? Point is, it will pretty much turn on from anywhere you're at.
I never use my key to turn on my car, I take off for work and other places at least 4x a day. With that being said, my (1) AAA battery last me about 2 months. I'm no math mathematician but thats like a million turn-ons for one AAA battery on the LCD unit.
Manual is pretty straight-forward but I would always download the most up-to-date manual (PDF) from the website because they sometimes change recommendations on how to install these things.
Good unit, I will be buying a CompuStar for my next car.
