Pros: Lightweight speedy hair straightener with new technologies that make your hair smooth and shiny
Cons: Very expensive. Can't reach hair close to the scalp.
This is a new type of hair styler by Conair. It combines the plates of a straightener with the hot air of a dryer.
It seems to be an evolution of the styling comb. It is a type of dryer that forces the hot air out of the side of a long barrel with a comb or brush attachment. The idea is that you are shaping your hair while you dry it. My hair is very thick and the old style styling comb never worked for me. I have curly dry hair and I only use a hair dryer when I want to straighten it. The old style styling comb would leave my hair straighter, but frizzy.
This Infiniti Styler takes the styling comb a step further by using hot ceramic plates instead of a brush or comb. It has 9 tiny Tourmaline Ceramic plates that comb through your hair. This is a barrel shaped device that is about a foot long. It is light enough to use with one hand. It is a metallic maroon color that Conair is calling wine. It has one of those circuit breaker plugs to protect you from blowing a fuse while you dry your hair.
? Safely dries wet or damp hair as it straightens
This has only 700 watts of drying power. My hair is short but very thick. This device is not strong enough for me to go from wet to straight. Conair makes a full size hair dryer with this same technology, and it is much better for drying your wet hair.
? Hot air feature provides instant drying power
This is true; the high setting heats the plates very quickly.
? Tourmaline Ceramic Technology Ion output helps smooth the cuticle layer creating silky, shiny hair; Protects hair from damage
I have no idea what Tourmaline is but my hair looks very shiny when I use this product.
? Ionic Technology for less frizz and more manageability
I believe this is true. Supposedly Ionic hair dryers help your hair dry faster
? Triple Action Styling System - 2 rows of detangling combs and flocked polishing disks to add shine; Tourmaline Ceramic straightening plates with 4 position tension settings to eliminate frizz; Straightens, shines, controls frizz, and adds volume
There are three rows. The outside row is a flocked (furry?) comb that smoothes and detangles. The inner row is made of 9 tiny ceramic plates. You can adjust the tension of these plates. It is a comb of ceramic plates to straighten your hair.
? Exceptional power - Equipped with 700 watt power motor for quick styling results
700 watts seems pretty low to me. The most powerful hair dryers are 1600 to 1800 watts. I believe that this lower power is a trade off for the lightweight.
? 3 Heat Settings - Low Setting: this position combines ideal air flow and temperature setting for shaping finer, damaged or treated hair; High Setting: combines ideal airflow with higher temperature, especially recommended for pre-drying and also for styling and straightening thick hair; Cool Setting: using the cool setting at the end of straightening sets the style for a long-lasting effect
There are three heat settings, but I have only used the high heat setting.
? Limited 3 Year Warranty
Conair will repair or replace the unit free of charge for 36 months from the date of purchase if the appliance is defective in workmanship or materials. To obtain service under this warranty, return the defective product to the service center together with your purchase receipt and $7.00 for postage and handling.
Although this is called a wet to dry styler, I have never used it on wet hair. I find that it easier to straighten my hair when hasnt been shampooed for a couple days. I use a liquid straightening product to start, rubbing it evenly through my hair. With my short hair the easiest thing for me to do is bend over and run it through my hair from neck to the top of my head. This sounds odd, but being upside down lets you use gravity to lift your hair away from your scalp. After you take a moment to admire your troll doll hair do, you can use the device comb your hair down and straighten it from top to bottom. This is pretty fast. It takes about ten minutes to get hair almost straight. The one imperfection is that it hard to straighten the hair closest to your scalp. There is a technique in the manual, but it requires you to hold the device close to your scalp, which burns. This product is very fast and does a pretty good job, but if I want pin straight hair I need to use a straight iron to do the top and front.
What I think
Even if it cant do a perfect job, I really like this product. It really speeds up the process and my hair looks very shiny. When I straighten my hair, it stays straight for a about a week. This product is great for touching up my hair on the days following the initial straightening. It takes about two minutes with the styler, because it is working from the moment you plug it in. You cant use an iron without waiting for it to heat up and that seems to take ten times as long.
This product cost $50. It is not the most expensive styling appliance out there, but when you consider that it cant do the job alone, then it seems very expensive.
