| sue777's Full Review: Conair Fabric Steamer Deluxe |
The only thing I dislike about having to go to work every day is having to worry about looking good! I work in a professional office, so attire DOES matter. I try to plan my outfits the night before and make sure they are cleaned, pressed, and ready, but some nights I just don't get to it before I drop from exhaustion. So the next morning I'm frantically searching for something clean, lugging out the ironing board, waiting for the iron to heat up, and inevitably making the garment look WORSE than when I started. Ironing while in a hurry is never a good idea. When I saw the very reasonable price of $69 on a full-sized garment steamer, I just had to try it. I brought it home, assembled it in less than 5 minutes, and filled the provided water jug with water, which was very easy to do as it fit nicely right under the kitchen tap. (The jug is similar to a one gallon milk container, handle and all, but only holds half a gallon, and markings on the side of the container designate the number of MINUTES the steamer will run at each particular level, not number of ounces of water, i.e. they say that the full half-gallon will last 90 minutes, half the jug will last 45 minutes, etc.) I plugged it in, turned it on, and before I could choose an article of clothing to experiment on, I heard it gurgling and steaming. (approximately one minute) I hooked the slacks, hanger and all, on the garment hook, and started steaming. According to the directions, you should steam from the bottom up, but I seem to like starting at the top, holding the pants at the bottom, and steaming down. Probably just a personal preference thing - as long as the wrinkles are leaving, it doesn't matter WHICH way you do it! I found it to be very fast, very easy, and very effective. I grabbed another pair of slacks, then a sweater, then a shirt, and soon I was ironing a week's worth of clothes while still having fun! I'm sure the novelty will wear off, but it's going to be great to quickly remove wrinkles in the morning without setting up the old board and iron. The steamer stands in the corner of my bedroom right next to the closet so my clothes go from "wrinkled in the closet" to ready-to-wear in two steps and two minutes. Since I was still having fun I wheeled it over to the window and steamed the curtains.... they haven't looked this good in years!
