MOMMY I WANT CURLY HAIR LIKE YOU
Recommend this product?
Much to my daughter’s dismay, she did not inherit Mommy’s naturally curly hair. Instead, like her Aunt, she has thin, very straight hair. Ever since she could hold a brush, she has brushed and played with my hair and told me, “Mommy, I want curly hair like you!” When she was about four, she started begging me to curl her hair with curlers. We bought those foam rubber ones, but we had to be sure to remember to put them in the night before so that she could sleep in them. If we tried putting them in during the day, her hair didn’t have enough time for the curl to set and hold. My poor baby would sleep in curlers just so that she could have curly hair. She has done this for the last five years, then I finally decided at the age of nine (almost ten) she was old enough for a set of hot curlers. She and I decided on one of our Mommy/Daughter outings to go shopping for them .
WHAT WE FOUND
We were in Wal-Mart carefully examining all the hot curler sets and curling irons when another mom and daughter showed up. The daughter, who happened to be in her late teens, had the most beautiful spiral curled hair. I just knew it had to be a professional perm. They asked me if I had seen a product called Hot Sticks® on the shelves. I told them yes and pointed them out. I asked them if they had ever used them before and the mom told me her daughter had been using them for years. She also volunteered the information that her daughter has very straight hair and that the curls I was seeing were a result of the Hot Sticks®! I then asked her if she thought it would give my daughter the same results. She said absolutely, so I asked my daughter what she thought and we decided to give them a try. I did ask the other mom why she was looking for a new set and she told me her daughter was buying them for a friend. I also thought to ask her if they last past the warranty or not. She told me that her daughter has two sets and that she has had both of them for about five years. I was pleased with that bit of information.
HOT STICKS® OR MORE HOT STICKS®
There were two different models of Conair® Hot Sticks® Hair Setter at the Wal-Mart where we were shopping. They had Hot Sticks® and More Hot Sticks, the only difference I could see in the two products were the number of sticks included in the hair setter set. The Hot Sticks® had fourteen sticks and the More Hot Sticks® had 20 sticks. My daughter and I decided to go with the Conair® More Hot Sticks® Hair Setter, we thought it would be nice to have more sticks to set her hair.
WHAT YOU SEE IS WHAT YOU GET
Once we got home, we were excited to open the box and see exactly what we bought and read how to use them. We opened the box and found a case with 20 rollers or sticks looking exactly like the picture on the box. The other thing in the box was the instruction manual and the warranty card. So what you see on the box is what you get.
Since you do not have the box, I will list the features that are listed on the box for More Hot Sticks® by Conair®.
•a base that is used to heat the curlers (sticks) with a clear plastic lid – this base has 20 slots where you place the sticks so that they will heat, it also has a six foot cord with a place to wrap it around the base for easy storage
•12 medium and 8 small size sticks that self lock, no clips to mess with
•a ready light that lets you know when the curlers/sticks are ready to use
The instruction manual gives you the typical warnings about not using while bathing, keeping away from water or placing where it could easily be pulled into the tub or sink. You should also use caution when using around children. Do not place this where a small child could possibly get to it. The instruction manual also gives instructions on how to use the curlers and tips on how to achieve different styles.
WHAT I LIKE
The sticks in the More Hot Sticks® Hair Setter heat up quickly, within minutes we are ready to start setting my daughter’s hair. They are easy to use, just roll and lock in place. They come out easily with minimal tangling and tugging. Depending on the style my daughter wants that day, we can be done within minutes. The curlier styles takes longer, just because they need to heat longer and stay in her hair longer. I really like the fact my baby doesn’t have to sleep in curlers just to get the curls she so badly wants. The curls last my daughter most of the day. I am sure on an adult that was not playing outside or as active as my daughter they would last into the evening. The Hot Sticks® were reasonably priced at $19.99.
WHAT I DO NOT LIKE
I really like the Hot Sticks®, but there are a few things I do not like. One thing, I have to be the one to set my daughter’s hair. They can get really hot and even I can get burned if I touch them in the wrong place, which happens quite often. The cord on the base, though it has a place to wrap it around the base, it does not stay. I have seen other products with a notch on the plug so that it can connect back onto the cord, my vacuum cleaner is an example, this product would benefit a lot with such a plug. Even though we bought the set with the greater number of sticks/curlers, there are still not enough for some of the styles my daughter likes. So we have to set one side of her head, then take the curlers out, reheat and set the other side of her head. Needless to say, she does not choose these styles very often because they are time consuming. We have thought about buying a second set just for this reason.
RECOMMEND OR NOT
I would recommend the Conair® More Hot Sticks® to anyone wanting a curlier hairstyle. They are easy to use and you can achieve some really cute and stylish hairstyles with these Hot Sticks®.
