Introduction
It's fairly well known that rowing provides an excellent workout. This machine tries to capitalize on this by providing an indoor machine which works the body much like would be done if you were on the crew team on the water. It can provide an excellent workout (i.e. burns a TON of calories), but make sure you're doing the exercise properly, or you could do some damage on your back.
The machine
This machine is top of the line in the way of rowers. Probably too expensive for the average family to have around, but I have seen it in every gym I have been in. I know why they choose this model. First of all, it's versatile in the workout it can provide. It has a 1-10 setting, which allows the user to choose the resistance on the bands for their workout. Beginners should start at 1, and adjust when they feel comfortable with the motion.
The machine also offers a display, which is easy to read, and it provides numerous useful outputs. For instance, it will count how many iterations you have done, calories burned, and the time you have rowed. Other outputs are available, but those are the ones I would guess would be most commonly used. All of this gives the rower something to moderate their workout with, just like they would on any treadmill.
How to Use The Rower
I think a lot of people are weary of using the machine because they never used it before. First sit down on the seat. Then strap your feet in tightly (it's simple, I promise), grab the handlebar, and pull back. Now, this is where you HAVE to be careful. You should be extending your legs, pulling with your arms, and putting minimal stress on your back. Definitely get the trainer to help you at your gym to teach you the correct form or you could injur yourself! Or, do what I did, and watch many other people do it first, and then slowly go about it.
Begin with a small amount of time on the machine, it's much more of a workout than it may look like. Your arms will thank you if you start out around 5-10 minutes, depending on your current fitness level. You will enjoy as you row, a faint blowing of fresh air as the bands spin in front of you.
Disadvantages
What are the disadvantages that I see to this machine? First of all, use it properly or you risk injuring some important muscle groups. Second of all, it isn't the most exciting machine I have used. It gets old quick, and it isn't easy to use a Walkman because of the back and forth movement.
Overall
Overall, I recommend this machine in short spurts to add variety to your workout. Use it safely, and you will be happy with the results as it works out all major muscle groups. You will be surprised how much you sweat using this, which means you are on your way to losing pounds. Enjoy your workout, stay safe :)
