KCFemme's Full Review: J. D. Robb - Conspiracy in Death
Conspiracy in Death is the eighth book in J.D. Robb's "In Death" series which revolves around Lieutenant Eve Dallas, a 2059 New York Police and Securities Detective that deals in homicide.
Each of the books in the series have had their plus and minus list (mainly plusses though), but this one seemed to be a little more tedious than the others. Sure it has some fun to read parts, but most of it seems almost "political" at times. For me that is a little harder to read.
On the other hand, she does manage to throw some rather unique twists into this one with a commrade that has grown to hate her over the years since they were at the Academy.
If you like mysteries and romance novels, you really should try out the "In Death" series. J.D. Robb is one of the few authors I've seen that can truly keep the consistency and continuity of the characters and situations in balance. Plus, how many authors have you found to have a 10 series story? Actually, there are two more since I've started my reviews, so it's good to see it's continuing.

Conspiracy in Death - The Story
======================================
You instantly get a glimpse into the mind of the killer when you pick up Conspiracy in Death. He is arrogant, believes himself above all others. You can see this immediately in his statement, "I am art. I am science. In all the ways that matter, I am God."
When Lieutenant Dallas receives her first call of the morning she finds herself on the street. The home of an old begger made of cardboard now houses it's owner minus his heart. Although other officers were there before her, they considered this a homicide and called Eve. What was different than just some random stabbing or violent act of revenge was that this man had his heart surgically removed.
Even though it was below freezing, there was a blizzard going, and the conditions were unsanitary, the operation had been performed meticulously and in minimal amount of time. Only an absolute professional could have performed this surgical murder.
During the process of searching for the killer, others end up dead, and past homicides look awfully familiar. Unfortunately for Eve, this single case will cause her the most grief of her life. She prides herself on closing her cases and proves her identity with her badge. She may not be on a winning streak with either as she becomes the prime suspect of another murder investigation.

Conspiracy in Death - The Characters
======================================
Lieutenant Eve Dallas - With the stress of the investigation and more frequent memories of her past, Eve suffers a great deal of turmoil during this book. She really has a struggle with who she really is. But even during this difficult time, she is continually fighting for the rights of the dead. In addition to finding out how strong she can really be, she finds that her need of others is growing.
Roarke - It's for him to put his business on hold and help Eve out. And he does so splendidly. Whether pulling strings, pampering Eve, or putting up with an entire Investigation team intruding upon his home, Roarke does everything he can to ensure Eve gets what she wants ... a closed case and her life back on track.
Detective Ian McNab & Officer Delia Peabody - Ever have the hots for someone you hate? Ever yell at someone for being stupid and then glance at their butt as they walk away? These to are in mass confusion! With everything going on with their boss, an investigation that seems that it will fail, and roaring hormones coursing through them every time they run into each other, it is just a thrill to see what will happen!
Even though the investigation itself may be a little political, and the God-like arrogance of the killer is a little difficult to follow at times, the sub-plots really make up for it.
I feel like I've known these characters for a long time, I've watched them back each other up, get rather badly hurt (both physically and emotionally), and also create some extremely memorable and romantic situations.
If you enjoy a good thriller, murder mystery, serial killer novel or even a good romance, this will definitely be a good book for you. If you like all of the above ... you'll fall in love with the "In Death" series and won't be able to wait to dive right into the next one.
