I purchased this egg timer quite some time ago after reading a review about it here on Epinions. I loved the idea of a timer that was fool proof and this one definitely is.

What is the Cooking.com Egg Timer

This egg timer has no moving parts and does not take any batteries. It is a simple egg shaped piece of plastic type material that has a flat bottom. It is the same size as an egg on the top but goes down to a flat bottom that is 1.5" tall, 2.25" long and a little more than 1.5" wide. The bottom half is completely clear and the top half is red before you start boiling the water. There are markings on top of the red that will tell you when your egg is Hard Boiled, Medium or Soft Boiled.

How does the Cooking.com Egg Timer work

To use this egg timer simply place it in the pan with your eggs and water and then turn the burner on. As the water boils your eggs will be done to your desired level when the red turns to black up to the line for Hard Boiled, Medium, or Soft Boiled.

How accurate is the Cooking.com Egg Timer

I was curious to see if this would really work. I like soft boiled eggs that are slightly more toward medium so I tested it when I first got it by placing three eggs in the pan and taking one out at a time to see how accurate it was. The results were perfect. The soft boiled egg was indeed soft boiled with all the white completely cooked. The medium egg was slightly more done but a little runny in the center of the yolk. The hard boiled egg was completely done without being overly cooked.

Downside to using this timer

The only downside of using this timer is that you have to stay in the kitchen and keep an eye on the pot since there are no bells to go off when your eggs are done to the right level. This does not bother me since eggs cook so quickly, but if you want to be running around doing other things this might not be the egg timer for you.
