Pros: Cranks out a generous amount of fresh pepper with each turn; solidly built.
Cons: Plasticky body is less elegant and shows finger and hand prints.
The Bottom Line: Get it for it's grind mechanism that really shoots out comparatively a lot of freshly ground pepper (which tastes awesome).

| chilantro's Full Review: Cooking.com Unicorn Magnum Plus Pepper Mill |
Cook's Illustrated got it right again with their rating of "top pepper mill" for this product. As recommended, it surely cranks out relatively lots of pepper with each turn of the dial and is solidly built to last!
While the utility and grinding mechanism seem second to none, the mill is not without a few minor flaws, just so you know. First, loading pepper is easy on one hand because you don't need to remove any pieces (i.e. no tools!). You just simply twist a part of the neck that exposes an inch or two diameter hole. However, it's still not easy to actually pour the pepper into that hole. It still takes a steady hand and a slow pour. Second, the mill lacks a mechanism to quickly switch grind levels. You have to manually turn a small dial underneath the mill to adjust the grind. It's easy but my last mill had three easy settings that took the guesswork out of things. Finally, the plastic body is utilitarian but hardly "elegant." It shows finger and hands prints. A stainless or wood model would be preferable.
It's all still worth it to me; I just value the grind mechanism most and it does seem to be quite durable.
