Pros: Looks great on your counter; great features.
Cons: My base didn't work so I had to replace the unit.
The Bottom Line: I think this could be a great coffee maker and is worth taking a chance on if you plan to use it before the warranty runs out.

| Prepoia's Full Review: Cooks 12 Cup Percolator |
Now this is a coffee pot that I really wanted to love. My old percolator was beginning to wear out. It had lost its shine (hard water washing will do that to exterior finishes) and it had a small leak in the spout. So, for Christmas a year ago, I put a new coffee maker on my list because I felt that the old one was getting close to the trash can. My sister spent a lot of time looking for a great replacement. She couldnt find the same kind that I had, so she gifted me with a Penneys Cooks 12-cup percolator. I loved it but because mine was still working I decided to put away the new one until the old one gave out on me completely. It finally did (about 10 months later) and I eagerly opened the box to my new Cooks percolator.
Most coffee makers are utilitarian in looks rather than really good looking. This one is really good looking sitting on your counter. It has a rounded type pot in stainless steel with black handle and base trim. Even the top of the pot is rounded and different looking. It has a great look and is designed well. The water level is clearly visible and the base is easy to set and operate. I really loved this pot and I think it would be a good one for purchasing and using.
But, it didnt work out well for me. The base, which sets up the programming, didnt work consistently from day one. Sometimes it would turn on at the automatic preset time, sometimes it wouldnt and Id have to turn it on manually in the morning. There also was no adjust that I could find to lengthen the amount of time it stayed on before turning itself off. This too seemed to vary depending on the whim of the control base. The biggest problem was that the warranty, by the time I used it, was no longer in force. Therefore, I had no way to use this pot dependably. I couldnt bypass the base because it is designed only to work with the base. You cant just plug it into the wall, only the base plugs into the wall. I thought to try plugging the base into my automatic turn on program through my cabinet radio but the plug didnt fit. So a good idea and a great looking pot had to be replaced.
There was only one other small but irritating problem that I experienced with this pot; the spout poured slowly and often leaked because of its shape or design. I didnt like this part even though I loved the overall look of the unit itself.
Because I am assuming that I got a lemon and because I really liked the features offered and the classy look of this coffee maker, I will recommend that you try it. Its like the nursery rhyme, There was a little girl and she had a little curl; right in the middle of her forehead. And when she was good, she was very, very good; but when she was bad, she was horrid. My feeling is that there are many people out there that love this unit and that when it is good it is very, very good; but for me it was bad and horrid.
How it works:
There is a base unit with control buttons. The settings show up on a lighted LCD display panel. The control buttons program the hour, minutes, and program the start/off time. Another light is the indicator light that shows when the coffee is done and whether the pot is still on or off.
You fill the pot with coffee to the level or number of cups you wish to percolate. 2-12 cups is a nice size range. The fill line is located on the outside and inside and is easy to read.
The water pipe is inserted into the bottom of the coffee pot and then you attach the permanent stainless steel coffee filter. Fill the filter with coffee and place the filter cover on top. Put the lid of the pot on it and be prepared for the marvelous aroma of coffee brewing.
When you clean this pot you may use hot sudsy water and then towel dry. You can put interior parts into the dishwasher but the pot itself must not be submerged in water. I washed mine out with a hot soapy dish rag and then rinsed it with cold water (to negate the soap residue) and then I wipe it with a paper towel inside and out. There is no special cleaning that needs to be done with this coffee percolator.
So, in closing my review, I leave it up to you. This should have been a percolator that I loved owning but I think I got a lemon instead of a good unit.
