I went to look up the word "redundant" in the dictionary and it said: "See redundant."
- Robin Williams
Having consumed far too much of the above mentioned product in the last few days, I may be a bit harsher on it than I would under normal circumstances.
I call Coors Light the redundant beer because it's like saying the beer is light twice. I had always found regular Coors beer to be light on flavor to begin with. Making a lighter version of a beer I already found to be light was... redundant.
The first year we had our block party, I bought cases and cases of Budweiser. No one drank it. A beer run was made for Coors Light and that's what was consumed the whole time.
I finally got to the root of the situation this past weekend. The official reason I was finally given this year for the affinity to Coors Light is that you have to drink so much of it before you really get to the point where you are falling-down drunk. Our block party begins at 10 in the morning and goes to midnight.
After finding too many half-empty Silver Bullet cans strewn around my yard and house following our annual block party, we abandoned the cases for a keg. A keg contains approximately 15.5 gallons of beer. We didn't quite finish it, but there's not much left.
Personally, Coors Light is not a favorite of mine. Out of deference to others who like it, I drank it over the weekend.
Coors Light is 4.2% alcohol by volume and 105 calories per 12 oz. serving. The beer out of the keg had quite a bit of foam. Straight from the can I never noticed as good of a head before. I also think the flavor is slightly stronger out of the keg as opposed to bottled or canned beer. The smell is not strong at all, just a light, malty scent that is not overpowering.
To taste at all decent, Coors Light needs to be kept cold. We kept it in a garbage can filled with ice all day and I always knew when it was time to add ice since the taste tended to become bitter as the beer warmed up.
My beer choices tend to be towards the more full-bodied beers and ales. If you are having a day-long event, Coors Light may keep your company from becoming falling down-drunk and passing out on your front lawn by 3 PM.
Note: Never, ever drink and drive. All the people who participate in our block party stay at our house overnight!
