| starcrossedkat's Full Review: Coppertone Sport Ultra Sweatproof Dry Lotion |
I've been a big fan of this sunblock for years. I don't like fancy stuff. I like your basic sunblock which will effectively 1. prevent tanning and 2. prevent sunburns. Coppertone Sport Ultra Sweatproof SPF 30 does this everytime.
As summer rolls around, I'm much more conscious about the sun. I generally pick up a tube of this stuff at the drugstore. It can be found at any drugstore or grocery store. It can be somewhat costly ranging from $7-$8 for 6 oz. tube. But most sunblocks are around that cost range so I don't mind paying for it and because of the fact I know it works, I'll pay for it. I was lucky to pick up an "economy size" at Costco which has 12 oz. and only cost me $8.99. That's a pretty good deal.
Now I'm an active person which is why I like this sunblock. I swim, run and play tennis a lot during the summer. So I need an effective sunblock that won't make my skin gross if I start sweating. This "ultra sweatproof" part of the sunblock seems to work. I generally apply it in the morning before going out and I'll reapply it after any activity which is what the directions recommend.
Now the product itself. It's a white lotion that's solid in color. I like this. I don't like my lotions to be runny or on the clear side. This means that as I'm applying, I can tell by leftover remarks, where I've applied it and where I haven't. The smell isn't offensive nor is it perfumed. It just smells fine. I really can't describe it. It's a smell that I can live with all day as my body gets warmer however and this is important. I can't stand scented lotions. The sunblock isn't greasy and is absorbed quickly by the skin. Or it could just be my skin. I can apply it on my skin however and within minutes put on clothes, get into my car which has leather seats and not worry about grease marks or stains. And most importantly, it doesn't get greasy on my hands. I've found that with a lot of products, they get greasy on my hands since I have to apply it with my hands causing me to wash the excess off.
This is what Coppertone claims on the back of the product: Coppertone Sport SPF 30 Sunblock Lotion is equipment for your skin. It provides all day protection from the sun. This high performance, ultra-sweatproof sunblock bonds to your skin on contact. It won't run into your eyes and cause stinging. Its dry lotion formula doesn't leave a greasy residue which could adversely affect your grip. Plus, the hypoallergenic formula gives you waterproof protection from the sun's harmful UVA and UVB rays. PABA-free.
Its active ingredients are:
Octyl Methoxycinnamate
Oxybenzone
Homosalate
Octyl Salicylate
I've been racking my brain trying to figure out if there are any cons to this product. I really can't come up with any. I can apply it to my skin and pick up a tennis racquet within minutes and not worry about the grip. It works throughout the day and through my active days. I haven't had any weird or problematic skin problems with it both on my face or on my body. I recommend it to anyone especially to those who lead active lives.
Happy summer!
