cyburn7's Full Review: Logitech Cordless (930614-0403) Mouse
I have decided to add only new review information, and not repeat what is in "Logitech Cordless Mouse For PC and Mac! Low Price-Works On Sheets!"
I believe that you will get a very good impression on this mouse from the 3 reviews here, I can only hope my review persuades you into buying this great mouse, believe me, you will enjoy it.
I bought this mouse about a one and a half months ago. I am very pleased by it's performance. It will track on any surface I put it on, but my desk, which is black. The mouse for some reason doesn't like black, I read that if it is used on a white surface it preserves battery life. Since I couldn't find a white mouse pad, I taped a plain piece of printer paper to my desk and it tracked fine. I am very disappointed that the batteries only lasted a little over a month,(based on 10-15 hours of use per day) when Logitech boasts a 3 month life. One VERY cool feature about this and anyother cordless Logitech mouse is that it has a power saving feature. This feature cycles between 4 states of activity, In Use - 1500 samples/sec (this looks like a bright glow) then Stand By - 1000 samples/sec (dim glow) the mouse switches to Stand By as soon as you stop moving it. Then 2 minutes of inactivity the mouse kicks into Low Power - 10 Samples/sec (fast blinking), finally the mouse kicks into Sleep mode - 2 samples/sec (slow blink). This is as low as it goes, the mouse does not turn off. Logitech claims that it doesn't turn off because if it did, the mouse would need to "warm-up" before use.
The optic eye in this mouse is 2nd Gen. I read that it was version 5.46 (or close to that) and the original optical mice Logitech put out were only version 1.86. The 2nd gen optic eye makes for a much smoother and accurate tracking mouse.
This mouse uses your garden variety AA batteries. The Mouse comes with 2 Phillips "Power Life XXL" AA batteries, they lasted a little over a month in my mouse.
At first I didnt like the fact it didnt turn off, so i removed the batteries everynight for the first week, after that it became annoying to have to re-calibrate the mouse with the receiver. So I leave them in and watch the power drain.
Logitech boasts a 6 foot range on this mouse, I found that rather funny, and decided to test it, it worked. Then I got a little bored and decided to see how far it really worked, so I walked over to my neighbours house (mouse in hand, while a friend watched the monitor), I went inside and phoned my friend and tried the mouse, sure enough it WORKED, at over 40 feet away, I think Logitech made stated range low incase of interference.
The mouse is ampidextrous, you can setup the buttons to work for either hand. Logitech's WebWheel is very useless in my mind, and I just set the middle button to work as a double click.
Its a little steep at $91.50 CAD w/tax, but its the best cordless/optical mouse on the market. I highly recommend this to anyone that is sick of their ball getting gummed up, and the mouse cord not being long enough.
Please do not hesitate to email me with any additional questions you may have.
