Pros: Great atmosphere, great architecture, very nice people, too many to mention.
Cons: Not the best place to change American dollars(they don't want your dollars).
The Bottom Line: Cordoba feels like home. I recommend Cordoba to anyone who wishes to see the real Mexico. This is as real as it gets.

| jesse12's Full Review: Cordoba-Mexico |
Cordoba is a city located in the Mexican state of Veracruz. It's in the inland regions of the state, about four or four and a half hours from Mexico City. About 15 minutes from Cordoba is a grouping of about four cities- Orizaba, Nogelas,Cd. Mendoza, and Cd. Blancho. These four cities are all joined together in sort of a county.
Cordoba is one of Veracruz's most major cities.
Back to Veracruz:
I wrote a review a while back titled "Viva Veracruz". That review focused on the Orizaba, Nogales, Cd. Mendoza, and Cd. Blancho area, and I also spoke of the city of Veracruz.
I mentioned in that review that Cordoba looked promising and that I would check it out sometime. Well I finally got a chance to visit this wonderful city on my last trip to Mexico, which was just a couple of weeks before I started writing this op.
My visit in Cordoba:
From my past trips in Mexico, I have passed through Cordoba many times, but on this trip, I got to see the city for what it really was.
At the time, My friend and I were in Orizaba. We decided to catch a bus to Cordoba in hopes of finding a terminal that would take us to Chiapas the next day. But first we needed to get our dollars changed to pesos, not an easy task in the state of Veracruz. At the same time, I was able to explore a city that I have wanted to see for a long time.
The bus dropped us off in a beautiful park, which sported some great architecture. In the distance I could see a church striking in it's beauty. The architecture of the park, combined with the view of the church in the distance was gorgeous. As I walked deeper in the city, I was impressed with the architecture of many of the structures.
But when I reached the city's center, I was blown away.
Many tourists do not know the state of Veracruz, and I thought to myself, "I wonder how many tourists have missed out in this jewel of a city center?".
I would say that it's one of Mexico's greater city centers. Mexico has other city centers of great beauty, but Cordoba's center is up there. The architecture is very elegant. The plaza with it's nice-looking street lamps and benches is the type of place that I could stay forever.
Such a great atmosphere. A beautiful pinkish church, surrounded by a beautiful gate of great architecture and style dominates the plaza. But what really made this place so pretty was the church combined with all of the other buildings of great style surrounding the plaza. This place looked better than New Orleans Square at Disneyland.
I would love to see this place at night. The Imaculada Concepcion Temple, Zevallos Portol, Municiple Palace, La favorita, and the Theatro Pedro Diaz are all great looking places, and are worth checking out. Like many other places in Veracruz, the Churches and buildings in Cordoba's center are painted in soft, peaceful, pastel colors.
In the downtown area of Cordoba it's really wild. Kind of wild like Tijuana. The music is booming and cars drive fast and crazy. This part of the city is filled with many sounds and smells. Cordoba is wilder than the other towns and cities in the area. It gets pretty intense. Not to far from there is the Mercado. It's a great Mercado that sells a great number of things. I got some great sea food there.
You should try the shrimp cocktail.
Cordoba has a great bus terminal. From there, I was able to take a bus to Chiapas.
After that, we went to a small town about 10 minutes from Cordoba.
Fortin De Las Flores:
Fortin is a nice little town between Cordoba and Orizaba.
It features a peaceful center plaza with an interesting building in the middle of the park. This beautiful red and white structure is wild in architecture.
An update on Orizaba:
If you have read my review titled "Viva Veracruz", you would remember me speaking of a river near the Orizaba terminal. Well there have been some changes. They are reinovating that place. There is a walkway and stone wall of nice architecture along this river. Now they have put gardens with many kinds of flowers in this beautiful place. Along with that, they have put sidewalk lamps along the river. I can't imagine how romantic the place looks at night with the lamps glowing at night with the peaceful sound of the rushing river. Many Mexican lovers do romance under the stone arches along the river. The walkway along the river goes a long ways. I never did find the end.
But in short, they made a beautiful place even more beautiful. I mean I could see this place being on the tourist's list. It's located right next to the smaller Orizaba bus terminal a block away from a small army barracks.
