One of mine and everyone's favorite beers when camping (Reply to this comment)
by walkerpkw
I always like to hear the good and bad about anything, but when it comes to beer, and I do enjoy Corona on certain occasions, like when camping or with friends, with or without lime I'm surprised to see your one star rating or total dislike. Although an excellent review I'm amazed by your total dislike about Corona, to say the least it's a very drinkable and very distinguishable beer. To some it up, in over 30 years of enjoying Corona I've never heard one derogatory comment until your review, and there are a few other 1 stars from others. I will read through your other reviews on beers and hope to find one we both like. The only thing I don't like about Corona is no twist off cap "Where's the bottle opener" CHEERS!

I Used to Fall for the Anti-Corona BS (Reply to this comment)
by wildarkieboy
My history with Corona Extra dates back over 40 years. In my early twenties I hit the northern Mexico cantinas pulling ice cold Coronas out of old flat pop machines(You older guys may remember the old ice-filled machines where you slid you pop down a metal guide finally reaching an opening where you could pull it out). The cantina price for Corona back then was two pesos, 16 cents.
For this and other anti-yuppie reasons I always viewed Corona as a weak, over-promoted, over-hyped, sissified brew. I always stuck with my Mexican favorites, Bohemia and Negro Modelo and the micro-brew I was favoring at the time.
In retirement the last three years back on the Mexican border, I've given Corona a second look. My wife and I visit the no-tax stores on the border, getting very inexpensive American liquor and Bohemia, Negra Modelo and Corona for about 14.00 a case. My wife would always get a case of Corona "for her". I would just smile and get one of the darker, more flavorful brews.
Slowly, I converted. In the ultra-hot Rio Grande Valley sun, yard work is no joke. I found myself secretly reaching for one of my wife's Coronas to quench my thirst. Those who label it as "flavorless" ignore its obvious hoppiness. Corona is made for the brutal south Texas, north Mexico sun.
So all of you elitist brew afficianados can go to beer hell. If you think Corona Extra does not deserve a niche among fine beers, you are simply wrong. You have never toiled under the near fatal south Texas sun and near death reached for a life-saving Corona.

I agree 100% with your review. I swear, the people of the United States can be such puppets. Why do they want to drink a beer that doesn´t taste like anything unless a lime is thrown in for flavor....Guy Mandude

. . .I have tried Corona several times in an attempt to understand its mass appeal. I have finally given up, as life is too short to drink ordinary beer.

To (mis)quote P T Barnum (Reply to this comment)

"There's a Corona drinker born every minute," and "No one ever failed to get rich underestimating the gullibility of the American consumer force-fed style in lieu of substance."
Nasty stuff -- I was truly amazed not to see the word "formaldehyde" in there anywhere. Gimme an Indio any day.

It will always amaze how popular Corona is; this past summer I could not believe the numbers of people consuming this...stuff at my fave outdoor bar.

one of those folks that you are referring to at the beginning of your review; I don't know anything about beer.
Love your review!

absolutely right, Mark... the ballot box has been stuffed. I am one who has been feeling embarrassed about an early, complimentary review. I've been wanting to edit and re-rate, but the trouble is, I feel that it would only be fair if I bought a bottle of Corona for re-taste purposes... and I simply don't want to spend money to buy this beer. Perhaps I'll come across an opportunity in the near future that will motivate me to re-write my original review. Great review,

Drinking from a brown paper bag? I know your type!
I can understand folks wanting to drink ice cold beer in your part of the world and that lets these guys market this sort of 'beer'. But believe it or not, in a chilly Scotland stuff like this is all the rage. Imagine being in a pub here on a cold, wet October evening, sitting in front of a roaring fire, sipping on a dark and malty Belhaven 80/- poured from a handpump, and you look round to see spotty faced kids slurping American (or Mexican)* factory 'beer' by the neck. It would drive you to drink (if you needed an excuse).
*We have our own versions of pishwater too. Things like tennents lager.
Oh well, pub time.
Cheers, big man

This beer is way overpriced and I don't understand the attraction. I see people paying $8!!! a six-pack for it in the supermarket.
Cheers!
