Pros: Friendly, on the beach, comfortable and casual, 100% smokefree rooms.
Cons: Some worn facilities, 100% smokefree rooms.
The Bottom Line: I come back to the Cross-Rip year after year to relax on the Cape. A very comfortable place with lots of charm and character.

| fritz_t_coyote's Full Review: Corsair And Cross Rip Ocean |
The Neighborhood
The Corsair and Cross-Rip are on Nantucket Sound, with a wonderful view and the breeze and sounds of the open water.
Well off the main roads, the only sounds you hear are waves and wind.
They are 2 motels, with efficiency suite features, there are also more elaborate rental houses available on the property.
the differences
The Cross-Rip is older, funkier, with narrow passages leading to a great open view. The Ocean-Facing rooms at the ends of the two wings are quite private and nicely furnished.
The Corsair is newer, with wider passageways, easier access for those with limited mobility, and more cookie-cutter in room shape and facilities.
Both offer comfortable furnishings, many with kitchenettes, and are clean and well maintained (but show the signs of weathering that comes from spending winters on Cape Cod.)
Rooms
These are decidedly not Chain motels. There is character in every room, especially in the Cross-Rip.
Rooms have beds, sofa-beds, clean functional bathrooms, there are phones and basic cable TV. And the windows open so you can smell and hear and feel the ocean breeze.
Staff
The staff is almost family, the owners tend to hire the same folks every year, everyone is friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. Many guests are regulars like me, coming back year after year for a delightful, relaxed Cape Cod experience.
Amenities
Pools (indoor and outdoor) hot-tubs, a gameroom are there for your enjoyment...and the beach. Sand chairs are in most rooms, other beachgear can be borrowed from the office.
Dining
In-Season there is a continental breakfast available, along with some special night meals, or you can take a short drive to the nearby eateries (For breakfast I recommend 'The Egg and I'). Or you can use the kitchenettes that are included in most rooms.
There are also gas grills available for outdoor do-it-yourself dining; For the ultimate in DIY dining, bring your salt-water fishing gear ... there is good fishing right on the beach.
Nightlife
Strictly DIY. This is more 'family friendly' then 'Party Central'; there are no nightclubs nearby and Massachusetts is serious about enforcing DWI laws. There is a hotel bar about a 5 minute walk away if you are interested in adult cocktails.
Overall
An authentic Cape Cod experience, relaxing, easy going, and fun.
Sure, you might find cheaper chain motels along the highway, but here you can sleep at the beach, and listen to waves and wind and sea birds instead of the rumble of traffic.
Off-Season Bargains
Unlike many Cape Motels, the Corsair and Cross-Rip have extensive pre-and post-season availability. Check out their website for some bargains during the off-season, when there is less traffic, and more quiet.
