Cortaid Intensive Therapy Anti-Itch Lotion in a pump!

Pros:pump dispenser, a little goes a long way
Cons:small bottle, expensive
The Bottom Line: This lotion works to stop the itch, but comes with a hefty price in a small pump dispenser that will be used up in a matter of weeks.
I had a two-dollar coupon before I found the box containing the Cortaid Maximum Strength Intensive Therapy Anti-Itch Lotion. The idea of Cortaid in a lotion with a pump dispenser appealed to me, until I saw the size of the box along with the price. This will set you back $8.99 for only 3.5 ounces of this 1% hydrocortisone lotion.

I am more than half way through my first bottle that was purchased on June 24th. I see these lasting two weeks to combat the summer suffering with eczema itchiness. This year I have breakouts above my elbows on both arms. I found relief the best way with this Cortaid Maximum Strength Intensive Therapy Anti-Itch Lotion.
The white bottle is less than four inches tall with the blue pump dispenser not opening a long stretch. The top does not seem to unwind to leave a larger gap between the pump and the twist-off lid. As I open the lid I see I have only a 1/4 of the lotion left and will finish it a lot sooner than the expiration date of 2006/04.
I think the reason I have used so much of the Cortaid Maximum Strength Intensive Therapy Anti-Itch Lotion is that I have stored it inside the cabinet where I keep my regular hand lotion. Since this purchase I have used it in place of regular hand lotion. My hands are sore with cuts on most fingers with the need to rub on cream before wearing cotton gloves to bed. This is normal for my skin at this time of year.
The lotion has a rich feel to in in a creamy texture. The scent is light and it stops the itching from driving me crazy. They do recommend not using more than 3-4 times a day, not for children under 2 years of age and to store at room temperature.
I have all my creams inside my refrigerator so this lotion at room temperature stops the itch while the creams soothe the rashes and flareups. It is also stated on the box to ask a Doctor if you are using other Hydrocortisone products. I specifically use other products for different parts of the body and feel I have enough experience having lived with eczema for forty years.
The Cortaid Maximum Strength Intensive Therapy Anti-Itch Lotion is not to be used near eyes or for a diaper rash. I would never think to do that, but just in case someone would - don't. However if you have external anal and feminine itching you can use this, but discontinue use if rectal bleeding occurs.
I specifically use the Cortaid Maximum Strength Intensive Therapy Anti-Itch Lotion for my hands and arms only. I use other creams for the face, legs and other areas. The inactive ingredients are as follows:
Benzalkonium Chloride, Butylparaben, Carbomer, Ceteareth-6, Cetyl Alcohol, Citric Acid, Dimethicone, Ethylparaben, Glycerin, Isobutylparaben, Methylparaben, Mineral Oil, Petrolatum, Propylparaben, Sodium Citrate, Sodium Hydroxide, Stearly Alcohol, Tetrasodium EDTA, Trocopheryl Acetate and water.
Even though the cost is a bit more than I would like to pay, I have another coupon and will be making another purchase next week. I doubt I would continue making regular purchases year round, but at the start of summer season I find this helps stop the itchy dry skin and keeps my hands soft. I am not sure I would classify it as intensive therapy. It does provide moisture to the skin.
The lotion does not irritate the open cuts I have at times on my hands or cause any burning. It relieves the itching as it claims to do. This would work for anyone who has eczema, psoriasis, seborrheic dermatitis. It is also recommended for those who have itching associated with jewelry irritations, rashes from detergents and soaps, insect bites, poison ivy, oak and sumac and as mentioned earlier for external feminine and anal itching - but not if you have a vaginal discharge.
