Why pay full price? That is my unofficial motto in life. I love a good deal, and am not above buying used products to get one. When I was in the market for a toddler bed for my second son, the first place I went was my favorite consignment shop.
As with any consignment shop, sometimes they have what you’re looking for, sometimes you have to look elsewhere. This time I was in luck, as they had several toddler beds in stock.
I already have one toddler bed in my home, currently used by my five-year-old son. It was also a Cosco bed of this model. I decided that I couldn’t go wrong with another Cosco bed, so I bought it. After all, for $35 (including the mattress) I knew I couldn’t get a better deal on any bed.
My Cosco beds are made of very strong steel tubes. The tubing of the head and footboards is about an inch and a half in diameter, and the slats of the bed are about one half and inch in diameter. Two long tubes on either side attach the head and footboards to one another. The slats run from side to side on the two long tubes.
The construction is rather simple, but it is impressively strong. They claim a weight limit of 150 pounds, which is on the light side. My children all love to bounce on the beds when I am not looking, which exerts a force well in excess of 150 pounds I’m sure. My husband, who is a stocky 185 pounds, has sat in the middle of the bed and not caused any damage to the structure. I am also (don’t tell anyone) over 150 pounds and have sat on the edges without damaging it. Any bed that can withstand this much weight is worth the small price I paid and then some!
I have seen these beds in three colors—blue, white, and red—but I do not know with certainty whether they come in any other colors. The two I won are white and red.
I have been very pleased with the way these beds have lasted for my family. Our first (which was also bought second-hand) has been in use for three and a half years and the second for two or three months. In all this time there has been no damage to these beds whatsoever, and my kids are not gentle.
I would recommend this bed to anyone with a child too old for a crib and too young for a twin bed. This is a wonderful, durable transitional bed that will serve your family through as many children as you need it for!
