When I started looking for a high chair for my youngest son, of course I wanted the best. I didn’t keep my oldest child high chair, so off shopping I went. I “thought” I wanted one of the fancy high chairs that do this and that and convert into this and that. With looking at their size and their price tag, I quickly changed my mind. Then at Wal-Mart I came across the Cosco Basic High Chair. I was immediately impressed with the price but wait..why was this high chair so much cheaper then the others? I certainly didn’t want to skimp on quality just to save some money and of course, I only wanted the best for my baby. With a bit of research the Cosco Basic High Chair came home with me.
First and foremost, the Cosco Basic High Chair is a high quality, affordable high chair.
One thing that truly drew me to this high chair was its size. I have a small kitchen and do not have the room for a huge high chair. This chair was and still is the perfect size. The chair measures 36” high, 18” wide and is 17.5” in depth. The high chair has plastic on the ends of the legs so not to scratch the floor. This chair is lightweight, my son at 21 months now pulls his chair out when it is dinnertime.
The Cosco Basic High Chair has many other wonderful qualities. It easily folds up. I like to take my own high chair places and this one folds and unfolds easily. It is also easy to clean. The seat and back are made of a padded vinyl that wipes clean easily and quickly. The vinyl is white with light pastels and zoo animals through it, so should not clash with any kitchen. The base, arms and tray are white. They tray and base are also easily clean, just wipe clean with a cloth. The tray is also dishwasher safe.
The tray has clamps on the sides that attach to the arms of the high chair. There are three positions the tray will fit into, depending on the size of your youngster. There is a three-point belt that easily snaps together and can be adjusted to fit around your baby. There is also a footrest that your child will enjoy kicking the whole time you are eating dinner.
This high chair is also very sturdy. My son at 21 months insists on climbing up into it himself. He does this with close supervision and I would not recommend allowing your child to do this.
They say the back and seat are easily replaced but we have never had a need to replace them. We have had our high chair for about 18 months and have never had any problems with the vinyl cracking or tearing.
There are only two things about this high chair I could complain about, I sometimes have a problem getting the tray to snap into the right holes. Some days it is just temperamental!
The other is the belt. It would be nice if you could remove it to wash it. My son has some stains on it that I can not get out. It would be helpful to be able to remove the belt.
The arms of the chair, after a year, are starting to see some wear but nothing real noticeable.
Just this week, we removed the tray for our little guy and have pulled his high chair right up to the table. He loves this and since this chair fits nicely under our table, we have no need to purchase a booster seat.
If you are looking for an inexpensive, durable, easy to clean, easy to fold, attractive, goes anywhere high chair, I would highly recommend the Cosco Basic High Chair. But if you are looking for a fancy, converts into this and that, has this gadget and that on it- this is not the chair for you. This high chair is what the name implies- Basic. In my opinion- Basic is Best!
