imaboveitall's Full Review: Cosco Basic High Chair
Like the name says, this is a basic high chair. A flat seat, a flat back, a simple tray. No wheels, no adjustments, it's just a place to sit. But for most of us, that's all our babies need!
We bought this one because it was so cheap - only $20 a couple of years ago. It's very easy to unfold and put together. The tray just slides on, and has a pull-out "handle" on each side underneath that you just snap into whichever hole will fit best for your child.
The back and the seat are simple, flat vinyl so they wipe off really, really easy, there are no crevices for food to get stuck in. There is a belt provided which slips through the crotch area, and around both sides of the waist to hold them in. The strap is adjustable.
There is also a snap-on foot rest provided. I think it's snap-on so they can pack it more easily, but yesterday when my daughter climbed in it, the footrest came loose and she almost fell through the high chair. That is the first time that has ever happened, though.
Just a couple of problems - the vinyl splits easily, I've had to tape mine up in the seat (the back is fine) and it looks ugly because of that. Also, the strap is permanently attached so there is no way to take it off to clean it. Also, it's not super-steady - the base is wide enough to keep it balanced and steady under normal circumstances, but it is not extra-wide like the fancy ones, so tip-over is a possibility if you've got a table-pusher like I do.
You can remove the tray and bring it up to the table to eat if your table is the right height. It folds up fairly flat to take up little space. Shoot, it doesn't take up much space when it's unfolded! But if you don't want one this basic, then this would make a great chair for a grandma's house, for visits. We've been very pleased with our $20 investment, I bet you will be, too!
