Introduction
When my family was moving almost seven months ago, we decided it was time to move my youngest son (then two) into a toddler bed and give the crib to his sister (almost one). Until then, the baby was sleeping in her playpen, which she was fast outgrowing.
We already had two toddler beds, but both those beds were occupied by my older sons.
My mother-in-law saved the day by giving us the Cosco Toddler Bed With 2 Bed Rails. A friend of hers was going to throw out (what a waste) this bed as her son had outgrown it and she no longer had need of it.
Construction
The Cosco Toddler Bed With 2 Bed Rails is made of durable metal tubing.
The headboard and footboard are made of larger tubing, and the slats of the headboard and the bed slats are made of smaller tubing.
The metal tubing provides a strong bed frame, one that will support well over 150 pounds (which is the recommended weight limit).
I also like that the bed slats are placed far enough apart that a child who decides to pull their bed apart and stick their head through the slats (crazy, I know, but my kids HAVE done it) cannot get their head stuck.
Strength
The Cosco Toddler Bed With 2 Bed Rails is a very strong bed. As I said above, the tubular frame supports weights in excess of the 150 pound limit without problems (hubby has sat on the bed while holding our son).
Not only can this bed hold a lot of weight, but it can also take a lot of force. No matter how many times you tell your child not to bounce on their bed, they will do it anyway when you're not looking. My kids have, and the bed has withstood it.
Looks
I find the Cosco Toddler Bed With 2 Bed Rails to be rather stylish. It's got a raised headboard with a shorter footboard, and it seems more balanced that way. It's like a shrunken-down adult bed.
Our bed is painted white, and the paint has lasted very well. We received it in decent condition, and it was in just as good a condition when we sold it in a yard sale a few weeks ago.
The Rails
To be quite honest, the rails are really not a big 'plus' in my book. That doesn't make them a negative, they're just not a 'plus.'
These mesh-sided rails rise above the mattress (standard crib mattress) by only about two to three inches, so there is little to them that will prevent your child from falling to the floor if they are active sleepers.
Summary and Recommendation
The Cosco Toddler Bed With 2 Bed Rails is a strong, well constructed, durable and attractive bed for your toddler.
This bed will last you through no less than two children, and probably more if that was your desire. I recommend it highly.
