I have found that Country Life Vitamin D Softgels work great for me and I absorb them well. They are very small so anyone that has problems taking vitamins- this would be easy to do, plus the gel makes it even easier.

I have taken this Country Life Vitamin D3 for a long time. I think I started out on 1000 IU's, and then my doctor said I must be taking more since I live in the Northwest and I agree. So then for a long time I took the 2500 IU's thinking that was good enough for me- after all, the old recommendation was 400 IU's per person per day- now it's 800 (which still isn't enough for any normal person that doesn't get sunshine daily). 2500 IU's seemed pretty good, but now I take their 5000 IU's only for convenience. I would take 2500 times two some days to get 5000 IU's. My Naturopathic Doctor just informed that I should actually be taking 10,000 IU's per day, and my kids can and should be taking 5,000 IU's. I was stunned to hear this- since I had thought that 1000-2000 IU's for my husband and teenage daughter would be enough and 800-1000 IU's for my six-year old son would be enough (but apparently, it's not!). I can now give my kids the 2500 IU's with ease and some days they can take 5000 IU's by taking to per day. I will buy the 2500 and the 5000 IU's and take two so I get 7500 IU's. Any way, I use it, it's convenient that Country Life makes so many different IU amounts that aren't 500 or something, could you imagine how many I would popping per day?
I also recommend these to people with depression in the winter, SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder) and who live in the Northwest. I pass on information my doctor has given me and people I know SWEAR by it that it has improved their overall being; mentally and physically. They no longer have the winter blues as you would say and feel more motivated during these gloomy, rainy days in the Northwest. I notice them working on me, and other people who start taking them in about 2 and a half to three weeks, so it's NOT overnight, but there is an improvement within weeks. My labs have also showed that I am low on vitamin D, so that's something you may want to get before taking vitamin D or talk with your doctor about.
Vitamin D is also important in keeping us from getting sick a lot; flus, colds/viruses. It works in conjunction with calcium (and calcium is for bones, teeth, hormones, etc.). My overall well being is improved by knowing this, and forever I had thought I was getting enough in milk.
You can get 200 softgels for $6.29 off Vitacost.com, so it's a pretty affordable vitamin and multi-vitamins do not have the amounts of vitamin D I need. An added bonus is that they are free of yeast, wheat/gluten, milk, soy and preservatives. This vitamin D is derived is in the form of cholecalciferol - from lanolin.
Overall, this Country Life Vitamin D (2500 IU's) works very, very well. It is super easy to take and affordable as well.
