Unfortunately we had the opportunity to visit the Providence RI area recently and since the activities were going to be scattered over several areas, we chose the Courtyard Providence-Warwick as our home base destination. Diane’s two brothers, and families, stayed at this same location so when we weren’t all assembled in the various locations for the memorial service and burial, we spent our down time together chatting and catching up. This was especially nice since Diane’s niece had flown in from Japan and she hadn’t seen her for quite some time.
Check in: Since we flew up with Diane’s brother and wife, we arrived several days before the rest of the party. However, arrangements had been made for our stay by her older brother and, once we found the place, they couldn’t have been more courteous and accommodating. I will mention this hotel is fairly difficult to find since none of the streets in the area have signs stating their names. Even though Diane is fairly familiar with the area, new streets and so forth have been added and this hotel was pretty hidden.
It is located only 3 miles from TF Green airport and they do have a shuttle available, but with our extensive travels upcoming we had rented a car.
Accommodations: The hotel is three floors, 89 rooms and 3 suites. Our group had taken the three suites. Our room had a fairly decent sized kitchenette when you enter, fully equipped and outfitted. They provide coffee/tea service in the room as well as popcorn, which we utilized one evening thanks to the microwave in the room.
The living area contained a sofabed which was actually quite comfortable to sit on, a work table with comfortable padded chair, dresser, TV, dining table and two side chairs. Lighting was abundant and air control was comfortable. A door separated the living from sleeping area which contained a large and very comfortable king-sized bed, dresser, TV and lighting.
Bathroom was good sized, clean, and had adequate shower output. Towels were large, fluffy, and well stocked. Toiletries were very nice, and they kindly supplied us with toothpaste since ours was confiscated when we boarded the airplane in Cincinnati. Toilet paper - an A+ for their choice of cushioned double ply.
Two telephones were supplied as well as free internet in the rooms. Cable television was free but nothing outstanding. The windows do open in the rooms so you are able to get some fresh air, a rarity anymore in a hotel.
Amenities: Laundry/valet service Handicap accessible rooms Business office available with fax and printer Exercise room - cardio and free weights Indoor pool [located on first floor and the chlorine smacks you in the face when you are down on that level] Hot tub - we put up with chlorinated smells just to relieve aching muscles Meeting room Elevators Smoking rooms available
Dining: A complimentary hot/cold breakfast is served daily offering the standard scrambled eggs, breakfast meats, waffles, juices, fruits, hot and cold cereals and hot drinks. What we found particularly nice was the evening meal service offered as well, Mon-Fri, which came in quite handy one day. However, these are ‘themed’ meals and the one we went to was sports night, which was OK since it served foot-long dogs, chili, chips, etc. The down side to that, the huge TV in the lounge was showing the Skankees game and we sure weren’t gonna watch that team. We did take our food back to our room but I will mention they had a tub of ice full of beers - complimentary along with everything else.
They do have a fully stocked, but small, convenience store next to the office where we were able to purchase some frozen dinners which we could prepare in our room. They also have a variety of snacks and beverages available in the store.
Check out was as pain free as check in and done efficiently. All personnel were polite, knowledgeable, courteous, and helpful. The rooms were kept well cleaned and well stocked and except for the difficulty finding the place, I couldn’t recommend it more, especially for an extended stay.
Meeting up with Diane’s family is always such a pleasure. They have intense love and dedication to each other and offer complete support on all levels. This was a bittersweet meeting since we were there to lay her niece, Melissa, to rest. She was only 29 but a wonderful and loving person. She had lived a full and enjoyable life, albeit amassed with illness throughout. Now she is in peace … “Maybe tomorrow, Melissa” …
Thanks, Susi
