I thought I got winked at but instead I got punked. A big CoverGirl FAIL!

Product Rating:
Pros: Nice smelling, easy to apply, dries fast, doesn't wrinkle lips much
Cons: Garish colors, fades quickly, doesn't do what it promises, no shine
The Bottom Line: CoverGirl failed miserably with CoverGirl Outlast Lipstain Lipstick. The colors are awful and the stain fades away after a couple of hours. Disappointing!
PattyTherre's Full Review: CoverGirl Outlast Lipstain Lipstick Wild Berry Win...
I have been searching for a good lip stain that really lasts through eating and everything else. I have found a few long lasting lip colors that do a decent job but when I saw CoverGirl Outlast Lipstain Lipstick Wild Berry Wink, I just had to give it a shot. Generally I like CoverGirl products and I liked the shade, or what I perceived the shade to be.
This is a lip stain but it doesn't last through anything. It wears off in a couple of hours if I don't eat, drink, kiss, or even talk! A big disappointment.
About CoverGirl Outlast Lipstain Lipstick
This lip stain comes in what looks like a marker, complete with a felt tipped applicator. The tubes are color coordinated to the supposed lip color but are not see through. There is a small section on the bottom of the pen where you can see the liquid color. The lip stain comes in 10 shades, mostly plums and berries. The tubes look so much alike that it's really tough to know one shade from another but the Wild Berry Wink looks like a nice blend of plummy shades and pinks shades. At least the tube looks that way. These tubes don't come carded, they are sold loose.
My Experience
I expected a nice rosy hue to my lips and was pleasantly surprised when the felt tip smelled almost like berries. Application is very simple owing to the pointed tip of the pen. I didn't have to shake the pen or push the tip hard. The color came out nicely but it was so much darker and brighter (if that makes sense) that I couldn't believe it. It was way more red, almost a "Grandma red" shade. My skin doesn't like really deep red shades and it sure didn't like Wild Berry Wink!
Getting past the garish color, the stain dries quickly. There is no shine to it as it is a stain but it doesn't wrinkle my lips too much. It does tend to settle down a little when it dries and isn't quite so unbearably dark but it's still way, way off as far as what the color chart and the pen itself looks like.
I didn't wear gloss over the stain at first because I wanted to see how it lasted alone. I found that, without eating, drinking, or doing anything other than watching TV, the color faded after a couple of hours and I was left with just a bit of a hue to my lips for another hour. It didn't fade weirdly at least. No rings around my lips were left behind.
The second time, I applied the stain then ate after about 15 minutes. It was completely gone when I was done even though I was being super careful about wiping my mouth and I didn't eat anything oily.
Although I could drink from a straw without leaving marks behind, the color still faded away and went somewhere because it sure didn't stay on my lips.
I tried CoverGirl Outlast Lipstain Lipstick Wild Berry Wink with some clear lip gloss over it and it looked much better with the shine. It didn't last longer but it looked prettier while it was on my lips.
I didn't experience any irritation or tingling when I used the stain and it did smell and even taste nice. It's easy to apply but, if I made a mistake and went outside of my lip line, I had a hard time removing the residue as the liquid dries so quickly.
I tried this stain a few more times, hated the color and the short wearing time, and gave it to my sister who doesn't like it either.
While I know we have to give up shine and moisture for long wearing lip colors and stains, we shouldn't have to give that up for lip stains that aren't long wearing and that are so darn garish! I also bought the shade Plum Pout at the same time and that was worse. It was like purple blood. Really, really deep and not at all what the pen's outer color depicted.
Buying Info CoverGirl Outlast Lipstain Lipstick Wild Berry Wink and all the shades can be purchased at drugstores and mass-market stores on and off the web. I paid about $7.50 for each of my tubes. It was a huge waste of money.
Conclusion
CoverGirl Outlast Lipstain Lipstick doesn't last a long time on my lips and is very deep and garish. The lighter shades may look better but, according to the color chart, the descriptions of each shade, and the pen colors, the two shades I bought should have been perfect for my skin tone and preferences. Instead, they were very dark and, at the same time, bright. Just way, way too much for a daytime look and even a bit much for night for me. Even if I found a shade that worked, the lip stain simply doesn't stay on long enough for me to purchase another shade. It fades away after a couple of hours and even less if I eat or drink. It doesn't transfer too much, which is good, but it goes somewhere because my lips are bare after a couple of hours. Yeck. Disappointing. 2 stars.
