redhotspicy's Full Review: Cover Girl Clean Makeup
I have very pale skin and I like to use a light-coverage foundation to even out some blotchy-ness around the nose and eyes. Otherwise, I'm pretty blemish-free and oil-free. I started using this years ago, in my late teens, but just in the summer....and here's why.
My skin tone being so very pale, I can only use CoverGirl's lightest color in Clean makeup, Ivory, in the summer when I have something of a tan. In the winter (now) it just is too dark. BUT- I still LOVE this foundation in the summer as a natural and light-looking makeup to really give me that porcelain smooth look I love.
CoverGirl Clean comes in a simple, chunky clear glass bottle. It contains 1 ounce. The white plastic cap is the regular screw-on kind, and when removed reveals the opening of the bottle. The mouth of the bottle is rather wide for a foundation bottle, so you need to be really careful when pouring it out.
Clean Makeup has a distinct but pleasant smell- just like Noxema face cleanser. I happen to like the scent; it smells very clean to me. But for those that find the smell off-putting, it DOES totally vanish as soon as the foundation is dried.
One of my favorite aspects of Clean Makeup is how well it blends. I like to dot it on my forehead, nose, cheeks, and chin, and use a fresh makeup sponge to blend it in. Unlike most foundations, Clean Makeup takes a moment or two to fully set, so you have plenty of time to really blend it around your eyes and get it smoothly distributed in every corner. Not to worry though, Clean Makeup does dry and set completely after a moment or two, but some foundations dry a lot faster, so there isn't adequate time to blend!
The finished look for Clean Makeup is a natural but not too sheer appearance. I really like how it smooths out my skin tone and makes me look flawless. I must add though, I usually don't have any major blemishes, so I cannot testify to it's pimple-coverage power. The finish is dewy but not oily, which I love. I'm not a fan of that ultra-matte look on the face...perhaps because I am so pale, I just think a natural, dewy glow looks prettier. Now, I do not favor the oil-slicked look either, and Clean makeup will NOT make you look oiler. That said, I don't think it controls oil better than the average foundation, fine for me because my skin is normal.
I recommend putting a little powder over Clean Makeup, so it will last longer and set better. I happen to use CoverGirl Professional Loose Powder when I use Clean makeup (again, just in the summertime).
The remainder of your makeup will go on "clean"ly and smoothly over your Clean Makeup. Powder, eyeshadow, and blush blend well over this foundation without problems. If you use concealer, it also blends well into CoverGirl Clean makeup.
I didn't have any problems with skin compatibilty, it didn't clog my pores or give me any skin problems.
Overall, I would love to give Clean Makeup five stars, but they don't manufacture a shade pale enough for me to wear during the winter months, so I will have to take off a star because I can use this only in the summer.
I recommend Clean makeup to anyone desiring an inexpensive foundation that gives medium-light coverage, evens out the skin tone to perfection, and leaves a smooth and natural finish.
