Hello. My name is Kristina and I have big, bushy eyebrows. If I don't wax and tweeze every single week, I'm practically unrecognizable. It's true! The fact that my hair is soooo dark and my skin is soooo light makes it even more difficult for me to hide this issue.
Recommend this product?
About every other week - I have to trim my eyebrows too. Sound weird? I am weird, this should be no surprise. My eyebrow hairs grow SO fast that if I don't trim them (in addition to tweeze and wax), they end up growing out to THERE and then they do this funky little thing of curling on the end. Very strange as the hair on most of the other parts of my body are bone straight :).
I tell you ALL of this because since I have been traveling so much, there are times when I need things (in a pinch) to keep me looking like a halfway decent chick.
One of those items that I always seem to drag with me is my Cover Girl Smoothers Natural Lash & Brow Mascara).
About Cover Girl Smoothers Natural Lash & Brow Mascara
(I'll be NOT spelling all this out again!) The mascara comes in a .34 fluid ounce tubular container. The bottom half is clear and the top half (the brush holder) is grey. The product is clear and looks almost like paste (but clear, mind you). The texture is very light but a tad bit sticky. When it dries though it won't feel sticky. There doesn't appear to be any scent to it.
What Cover Girl Promises
Tame eyebrows and create natural-looking, feather light lashes with this clear lightweight conditioning gel formula. It's hypoallergenic, ophthalmologist-tested and washes off easy, breezy, beautifully!
I initially purchased this because I hate mascara. Hate it! I have yet to find a colored-mascara that works: doesn't irritate my eyes, doesn't smudge, doesn't make me look like crap, etc... Back in my teenage years, one of my chick-friends told me about this stuff (of course it was packaged with a different name). I liked the fact that I could apply something to my eyelashes to make them look longer and in a natural looking way.
So every now and again, I was purchasing this for my eyelashes. It was working great. I wouldn't even have the need to take an eyelash comb to them first (you know - to lift and separate - oops that's a bra). The brush is curved to match the shape of your eyelashes. When you apply, it goes on looking wet and dries with a slight shine. Have never had any issue with clumping. Throughout the day, my eyes have never been irritated and I noticed no flaking. These are good things.
One day, it dawned on me to read the actual container. That's where I saw it said brow mascara. What the heck? Looks like I could use this for my brows. Why would I use it for my brows? Ah! To make them lay flat and look a little more organized and ruly.
So I did. Here was my biggest, ever mistake. I tried using the applicator brush on my brows without thinking about the crap that was on them already. What crap? Foundation, powder, etc.... So when I took that brush across my brow, it collected goop stuff and THEN to make matters worse, I placed it back into the container.
BLECK!!!! This is how you make your product go from clear to cloudy. Also, weird bubbles form and while they're pretty to look at, you can bet your bottom dollar that it ain't right havin' that in there....
Bottom line is that I had to throw that container out and get me a new one. Now, I do two things. First, I don't use the brush that comes with it to apply to my brows anymore. Instead, I use some of those temporary/throw-away brushes that you can buy cheaply (by the boatload). The other thing I try to do is to take a lightly saturated (with Philosophy Immediate Glow) cotton ball across my eyebrows to make sure that the area is clean.
When I apply the brow gel, it looks great. It keeps my unruly hairs in place. Makes me look more professional. More than 1-2 coats however and my eyebrows look way too shiny. Unlike others, I have not had any issues with flaking.
Things To Remember
* Never pump it. Pumping is bad :). Introduction of air makes your product go bad quicker AND causes it not to perform as well.
* Replace every six months. Cause I said. Bacteria is bad.
* Washing your brow brush is bad. Water causes issue (no matter how little) when you put your brush back into the container.
