| loves2run's Full Review: Cover Girl Perfect Point Plus Eye Pencil |
When I was younger, I wore glasses. In order to make my eyes stand out behind the lenses; I would line my eyes with black or dark brown liner. This worked well and looked good. When I started wearing contact lenses, I felt this made my eyes look too heavily made up. I then stopped wearing liner completely. Fast forward to six months ago when I turned 40 and decided I wanted to try something new. No, not a mid-life crisis type of new, (I did that before turning 35 by getting a tattoo!) something subtle but different. So, my daughter and I set out on a shopping spree to find Mom some new makeup. We live on a very tight budget, so I decided my “makeup shopping spree” would have to take place at Target or Wal-Mart.
IT’S ALL ABOUT THE EYES
I feel my eyes are my best feature, hazel colored, with long lashes. I decided that I would start with the eyes. I bought some eye shadows in shades I have never tried before. By the way, I was quite pleased with the results of these new colors. To go along with the new shadows, I decided to try eyeliner once again. I wasn’t sure which brand or type of liner to start with, just knowing I did not want black or dark brown, and I wanted something that would go on gently being I put my contact lenses in before applying my makeup. As I strolled the aisles looking at different brands and styles of liner, I kept going back to the PERFECT POINT PLUS by COVERGIRL®. Why, I like the fact that the package said it was a “self sharpening eye pencil” and came with a “blender tip”. I bought three of these pencils in colors that I thought would compliment my eyes.
PERFECT POINT PLUS BY COVERGIRL®
Stated on the package: “Smooth, blendable color glides on effortlessly. Pro tip: For a natural line, apply close to lashes, working from the inner corners outwards. For a softer look, smudge lines with blender tip.
My personal experience is that what they state is absolutely true. The eye pencil goes on smoothly, it glides on without any poking or pulling of the eyelids. This is good for me because there is no moving of the contact lenses when I apply this.
I vary the way I apply this liner. Some days I want a more dramatic style and will just line my lids and then wear a lighter shade of shadow. Other days, I want the softer look and I will blend the liner with the blender tip and add a very light shadow on my lid. Either way, I really like the results.
Stated on the package: “Water-resistant for stay put color.”
As many of you know, I run, walk and otherwise lead a very active life. I find no matter what I am doing this eye pencil stays put, that is as long as I do not take a cloth (towel) to my face or facial cleaner. It has even stood up to the sweating I do while running. Before you think I am one of those people that applies their makeup just to go workout, nothing wrong if this is you, it is not like that for me. The only time I have makeup on to run or walk is on the days I do my workout in the evenings. I always apply full makeup after my shower in the morning, and so if I work out in the evening, I naturally am still made up. I feel for those that see me on my morning workouts, just me, no makeup, oh well, I am who I am! I digress…The liner does come off easily with my normal makeup remover.
Stated on the package: “Ophthalmologist tested”
Not sure how to go about checking for accuracy with this statement, so will have to just believe that this is a true statement.
Stated on the package: “self sharpening eye pencil”
I really can’t see where they can say that it is self-sharpening. I think of it as more of a pencil inside a tube that you twist to get the product out of the tube. Other eye pencils remind me of a real pencil where you have to use a pencil sharpener to get the color and to get the product back to a point. The Covergirl® Perfect Point Plus, works more like a mechanical pencil, the lead is there, you just twist to dispense it. The same concept with this eye pencil. I have yet to have the ones I have actually come to a point. The tip is usually more rounded so that it glides on instead of poking. This product is not retractable, so be careful how you twist so that you do not dispense too much.

FIND YOUR FAVORITE COLOR/S
I purchased the colors that I thought would look good on my eyes and to be quite honest, I couldn’t remember what other colors Covergirl® Perfect Point Plus had to offer. So I went snooping around their website to get the following information for you.
Perfect Point Plus comes in eight colors and they are:
Colors that fit in the “Cool category”:
Midnight Blue
Plum Velvet
Dusky Blue
Colors that fit in the “Warm category”
Espresso
Chestnut
Grey Khaki
Colors that fit in the “Neutral category”
Black Onyx
Charcoal
I have never really understood why they list colors in Cool, Warm, and Neutral categories, (I am sure if I snooped a little more I could find out, but then maybe someone will set me straight so that I don’t have to! LOL). I have always just bought whatever color appeals to me. I bought the Plum Velvet, Dusky Blue and Chestnut.
I would have to say the Plum Velvet has been the more versatile color for me. I can wear it with light pink on my lids, lighter and medium violets. The Chestnut looks good with tans and light browns. The Dusky Blue I have been extremely disappointed. It is just too light. It does not show up on my lids no matter how many times I go over it. I should have gone with the Midnight Blue, but I was afraid it would be too dark. Oh well, live and learn. I passed this down to my daughter. She is still too young to wear makeup when away from the house, however, I let her experiment with different types of makeup around the house. I am hoping she will learn how to apply it properly now, thus saving her the embarrassment I had to endure as a young teen first learning how to apply makeup. Or is bad makeup days a rite of passage for young girls? Anyone remember the bright green shadows of the 70’s? (shuddering LOL)
WHERE TO FIND
You can find Perfect Point Plus most anywhere Covergirl® products are sold. I found mine at Target, but I have seen this product being sold at Wal-Mart, Longs Drugs, Savon Drugs, and Rite Aid.
RECOMMENDATION
No matter what colors you prefer, you will find Covergirl® Perfect Point Plus easy to apply and easy to remove. It will stay on our under your eyes till you remove it. Now, I do not rub my eyes being I wear contacts, so I do not know if just rubbing your eyes will remove it, something I hadn’t considered till now. No need for a special sharpener being this pencil is dispensed from a plastic tube. I would recommend this product to all that want to accent their eyes by applying a liner. Even those 40 and over who feel they are in need of a change! :)
