| naphtalia's Full Review: Cover Girl Perfect Point Plus Eye Pencil |
I tend to go for liquid eyeliners on my upper eyelid. (I usually use lipliner pencils on my lower lid to match the color around my lips.) I like the even coverage and the look of liquid liner. However, there are times when I end up at someone's house and having to touch up my make-up with whatever they have on hand. Thus, I discovered Cover Girl Perfect Point Plus Eye Pencil. I've since purchased one to keep on hand for times when I need a softer look than I get with liquid.
Cover Girl Perfect Point Plus Eye Pencil goes on smooth the the colors blend easily. It's not sharp, but like the lip pencils, the narrow portion can be turned up so you constantly have a good tip on the end. Unlike the lipliners, it is water resistant. On one end, the make up comes out. On the other end is a beveled sponge applicator which can be used for softening the liner if that's desired. Both ends are capped with clear caps. I don't tend to carry this in my purse, but in my crowded cosmetics's drawer, the caps do stay on without problem.
There are eight colors to choose from. I like the plum velvet, the dusky blue and the midnight blue. I think these give a very unique look and work well slightly smudged. I do not like the more traditional colors of Espresso, Chestnut, Grey, Khaki, Black Onyx and Charcoal. The blacks and browns are dull and ordinary. If I want to go with that sort of palette, I would rather have the sharp line of liquid.
While the eye pencil applies easily with very little pressure on the delicate skin around the eyes, I prefer liquid which doesn't pull at all. I have fewer wrinkles around my eyes than many women my age and I'm convinced that part of the reason is that I've not been tugging at that skin while applying cosmetics. I like the smudged look that one gets with the sponge, but have the same problem here. I'd much rather work with powders and brushes to create a smudged line than with sponges.
I have found that I can get a darker and more definite application of liner with this by holding the tip momentarily against a faucet with hot water running out. One needs to be certain when applying that one doesn't expose more product than necessary at one time. The design is made to get the liner out. Like canned worms, it's much more difficult to get it back in.
This product does work well in lining around the inside corner of the eyes, but still can produce some tugging of the skin. My only concern there is that if I rub my eyes, this product wears off faster than liquid.
I'm not going to be giving up my liquid eyeliner anytime soon, however, as a once-in-awhile/in-a-pinch solution, this is very workable. It is also good for someone who is uncomfortable in working with liquid liners.
Be careful in using this that you don't stretch the skin around your eyes too much, but with that in mind, this is a fine addition to one's make-up tools.
You can find Cover Girl products like this Perfect Point Plus Eye Pencil everywhere from grocery stores to drugstores to warehouse shopping centers. It usually costs about $4. Keep an eye out for coupons, however, as often you can find it for as little as half that price. (I often find coupons for such items at Walgreens.)
