| VeeZee's Full Review: Cover Girl Professional Eye Enhancers 4-Kit Shadow... |
I'm definitely an eye shadow person. Not someone who goes for bold, but rather someone who prefers somewhat subtle earth tones, especially shades of brown. With the Cover Girl Eye Enhancers 4-Kit Shadows, subtle it seems is an understatement. I've managed to be lured in by the appealing array of colors on two different occasions, the browns promising intense color and appearing as if they would blend beautifully with the companion earth tones of green and beige, but have had my expectations unfulfilled both times.
My latest purchase, spice islands, turned out to be a major disappointment. Including the colors cinnamon stick (matte), parsley (matte), ginger (frost), and nutmeg (frost), I had high hopes for the hues. However, upon initial application, it was apparent that the shades did not provide the intensity and richness I'd hoped for. They went on thin, and even attempts to apply them heavily didn't help. They also did not blend well at all.
So, why did I make the same mistake twice? Because the concept of professional color matching is admittedly a good one, and the variety of shades offered by Cover Girl are impressive. Unfortunately, when you get the product home, it fails to deliver the quality comparable to the presentation. One benefit is that the product is fairly affordable, so you don't feel a major loss aside from the five bucks or so spent if the shades aren't up to par.
As if the shades weren't enough of a letdown for me, I also found the applicator to be downright flimsy. The foam ends are shaped well, but they end up coming off right away, leaving the applicator unusable. If they miraculously manage to stay on, they end up falling apart within a month or so. Maybe I'm just spoiled by Max Factor Eye Shadow quality, but I'm used to rich, full eye color that lasts, and an applicator and compact that take a beating (from the makeup case) and keep going strong. Sure, you pay a few dollars more for quality, but with experiences such as this I'm more than willing to.
Cover Girl products have variety and affordability going for them, but I found these qualities to be better suited to my teen years. I've since moved on to better quality for the most part where eye shadow is concerned. While the colors always tempt me, I've tried the product enough to know that it is best to pass it by in the makeup aisle. Remember, looks can be deceiving, and in this case they were. If you like barely there color, and I do mean barely, then perhaps this product would be more suited to your needs. I like subtlety, but even subtlety should have its strengths.

I'm not recommending the Cover Girl Professional Eye Enhancers 4-Kit Shadows due to two bad experiences, but will award the product two stars for its affordability and variety.
