| forkids's Full Review: Cover Girl Professional Eye Enhancers 4-Kit Shadow... |
Nope, not a big fan of Procter & Gamble’s Cover Girl Professional Eye Enhancers 4-Kit Shadows. I always seem to go back to the same old neutral colors and their browns looked particularly inviting. For about $3 you can get four different eye shadows in one compact, which is quite the deal. But…you get what you pay for on this one.
It wasn’t a smart buy for me because there are really only two shades that I use anyway, I stay away from any glittery stuff, the light colored enhancer was too light and the finished look was always too chalky.
I’m a fanatic about the overall quality of a cosmetic product, maybe it’s because I put up with the annoyances of “broken” makeup when I was a teen because I couldn’t afford to run out and replace my eye shadow every time the lid fell off. The lid falls off with this one; too much jumbling around in a handbag will do it. Sure, you can fit it back on but then it falls off again with chalky remnants streaking my leather wallet.
Not only do I take issue with the casing but I abhor the applicator as well. It’s stiff and too small for my tastes. I end up borrowing a brush from another compact or using one of my wooden brushes, which I prefer anyway. But to have to carry around excess accessories to make this product work for me is pointless.
Some of the eye shadow brands I use go on smoothly and stay all day without the use of a base foundation or concealer to provide a smooth working surface. The Professional Eye Enhancers require a dab of base on my eyelid before I get started. If I don’t use the concealer/base then the eye shadow flakes off and is virtually gone by the end of the day. The proportion of talc in the product doesn’t suit my skin and I don’t care for the quality and staying power. The colors didn’t suit me though they did have a broad spectrum with which to choose from.
There are nine color palettes available and separated into three, color spectrums. Cool - grays, Warm – earth tones, Neutrals-awful pastels.
Texture: yes, smooth and silky, but chalky and flaky to boot.
Finish: contains the matte color best for day and shimmery ones for some excitement in the evening. Beware of the mica (the shimmer ingredient)in this compact, it does irritate if applied heavily.
Intensity Yes, my earth tone browns produced good color but just not perfect for my skin, especially the highlighter choice.
As with any powder, make sure you blend it well, especially if you are playing with the contouring. Visible strokes of eye shadow just aren’t, well, pretty.
While the teen crowd digs Cover Girl, my tastes have matured away from this one and on to better quality.
