This spring I decided to embrace my inner glam girl, the girl unafraid of leather pants and halter tops, the girl able to wear mirrored sunglasses without fear of looking like an 80s throwback. (Okay so maybe I look like an 80s throwback but I don't feel that way.) So while browsing the cosmetics aisle of my nearby Rite-Aid I heeded the small inner voice of the glam girl and bought the Cover Girl Professional Eye Enhacers 4-in-1 kit featuring a super bold aquamarine shadow.
It was the aquamarine shadow that cried out to me, and I'm glad it did. The bold color looks exactly like it should. Unlike some eyeshadows that look as though they belong to an entirely different color family once they've settled onto your lids, Color Girl's shadows don't disappoint. Their rich color sweeps across your lid, boldly declaring "This is one hip chica."
The price of the 4-in-1 set is another big plus. Unlike department store cosmetics these won't set you back a crisp $20 bill, and you get four shades for not much more than you'd pay for a larger single shadow by Cover Girl or a similar brand. And since I don't use one single shade day after day after day, I'd rather have four smaller shades than one big shade any time.
One complaint I can register against the Cover Girl shadows is that they don't have the staying power some of the more expensive brand shadows do. My big, bad aqua shadow starts to lose its staying power about halfway through the working day. Around 1 p.m. I can see that it's faded to a softer version of its strong self, and some of the shadow slides straight for the crease in my lids. (I do so hate that cakey creased eyelid look.) So reapplication may be required.
Despite its shortcomings, Cover Girl Profesional Enhancers 4-in-1 set delivers. Strong colors in shades that look great and cost peanuts aren't easy to find. Just like aquamarine leather pants.
