Pros: Creamy, fluffy texture; applies easily; oil-free
Cons: Doesn't cover OR wear well; too sheer; made my oily nose WAY oilier; emphasizes lines/imperfections
The Bottom Line: Bad. Awful. Inferior. Dreadful. Repulsive. Oil-inducing. Gimmicky. Bad news. Steer clear!

| moonsista's Full Review: Cover Girl Tru Blend Liquid Foundation |
From the first time I saw advertising for this product, I was most definitely suspicious of Cover Girl's claims that this foundation matched 97% of all skin tones....um, with a shade selection of 15 shades, wouldn't it anyway? I knew, when I saw the same old Cover Girl color names that all of their foundations have, that this was a big gimmick. Nevertheless, I wanted to try this foundation anyway just to see for myself how it was. Then when I found a pack of trial sizes in three shades, I bought two. And I suffered through both packs! I actually KISSED my foundation of about two years, Cover Girl AquaSmooth when I was done using the Tru Blend Foundation....
Product Details:
Tru Blend is Cover Girl's newest foundation product. It comes in a clear and silver pump bottle and does not include an applicator. The lid is made from clearish/white-ish plastic and just pulls off and then snaps back on.
Each bottle contains 1.0 fl. oz. of foundation.
Product Claims:
Cover Girl claims that this foundation has advanced color technology that adjusts to the tones of your skin, and that it will match 97% of all skin tones. Other claims include: the coverage is flawless and natural looking, it won't clog pores and is hypoallergenic.
Ingredients (taken from packaging):
Cyclopentasiloxane, glycerin, water, dimethicone crosspolymer, dimethicone, PEG-10 dimethicone crosspolymer, methicone, PEG/PPG-18/18 dimethicone, benzyl alcohol, ethylparaben, disodium EDTA, methylparaben, propylparaben, titanium dioxide, mica, iron oxides.
My Experience:
After reading all of the positive reviews here at Epinions, I thought I was going to like this foundation. When I snapped open one of the tiny sample bubble packs, I immediately loved the creamy, fluffy texture. It isn't runny and thin - it's fluffy and creamy, and almost thick. I like a nice, thick foundation.
Applying Tru Blend is easy. It slips onto the skin and applies smoothly. This is one of the few things I actually really like about this foundation.
I always apply a loose, sheer face powder over my foundation. I normally use Avon Loose Powder...it works well with every foundation and never turns color on me. When I apply my loose face powder over the Tru Blend, I get a slight bit of resistance. Almost like the foundation is just sitting there on my skin, with an almost tacky texture. It's weird. It's not awful - but the nearly tacky texture bugs me.
I think that once the foundation is on my face, it looks OK. That's all, though - just OK. This reminds me of the 1980's when we had just a few drugstore brands of foundation to choose from and every foundation was pretty much the same. In fact, Tru Blend reminds me of those days. The foundation is just there. It doesn't do much other than maybe even out your skintone a bit.
I needed a heavy dose of concealer when wearing Tru Blend. The coverage is too sheer for me. It covered none of my imperfections.
By the time I got to work while wearing Tru Blend, my nose was very oily. I have an oily nose anyway..but I'm talking way oily while wearing Tru Blend. Yuck. On the first day of using this foundation, when my friend Lauren got to work about two hours after I arrived, I asked her what she thought about my new foundation. She said it looked oily. In fact, while using my beloved AquaSmooth, I get no oil breakthrough around my nose on my cheeks...but when I used Tru Blend, I did. I could also swear that it made my chin look slightly oily. I do not have oily skin other than on my nose, people! I have skin that tends to be dry!
The wear of Tru Blend is bad. Period. By the time lunch was over, I had to re-apply it on my nose, chin, and cheeks because it had worn off. It didn't slide away in an oil pit, it had just worn off.
The thing that really irritated me about this foundation, and what was the straw that broke the "one star rating"'s back is the fact that this foundation actually emphasized my imperfections. It settled right into the teeny-tiny lines around and under my eyes (and I do mean they are tiny) and made them look bigger..and made me look older.
More On The "Skin Tone Matching":
Come on, Cover Girl. Cut the crap. This foundation doesn't have "advanced color technology that adjusts to skin tones". It matches 97% of skin tones because it's so sheer that it gives the false illusion that it's matching every skin tone. Period.
I Will Never Use This Again!
I'll never use this again. And I doubt I'll stray away from my perfect AquaSmooth again. Thankfully, I only spent $3 total on the two trial packs of Tru Blend. I'm glad I didn't buy an entire bottle of it.
Price and Purchasing Information:
I purchased two of the "tiny try" packs that contained three different but similar shades of the Tru Blend Foundation. They were $1.50 each at my local Rite Aid drugstore. The full-size bottle of Tru Blend is $8-$9 depending on where it is purchased, and probably $7-$8 at a store like Wal-Mart.
