Pros: Bed's mechanism worked great for the better part of 10 years.
Cons: VERY EXPENSIVE. Mattress is flimsy and loses its shape. There is NO warranty.
I purchased a Craftmatic I in 2002. It needed service in 2003 when a couple of items stopped working after I moved. I paid the service technician $129 but all parts were included. No problem. Last week my now 9-year old bed stopped working (in the 'up' position, no less!) I called Craftmatic, but they said they "don't service anything that old". Interesting. So where's my "lifetime warranty" and whose lifetime were they referring to? They said a company named Contour Beds now services their "older" beds. I called Contour Beds, who charges a $150 service call fee. Considering it's been 8 years since the last service on my bed where I paid $129, this seems reasonable. It's payable in advance of scheduling, which is a little odd (and not very trusting on the part of Contour Beds). I need the service so I paid the $150, and THEN learned the $150 only includes a service call. Parts, if needed, will be EXTRA! I checked online and on their website, Contour Beds says they are "honoring all warranties and service agreements previously extended to customers of the Craftmatic Adjustable Bed Company". So how is charging a service fee PLUS charging for parts for the mechanism "honoring" the Craftmatic warranty? How is this any different than if I had some bed from "X" company that needed service, and I paid them a service call fee plus paid for parts? I'm waiting for the phone call from them to schedule my service. I'm also calling my Attorney General. I'm also going to make every attempt to contact Contour Bed's President, Jeffrey Mowrey, and their company's Principal, Diane Peltzer. This is disgraceful! I don't know if Contour Beds is really a separate company or just an entity designed by Craftmatic to get out of honoring their warranties. My recommendation is DO NOT BUY A BED FROM CRAFTMATIC OR CONTOUR. In 10 years probably neither will exist - at least not by the same names! Note: This is NOT a BBB Accredited business. BIG SURPRISE!
