Ever see those Craftmatic adjustable bed ads on TV? You know, the ones where you see happy, well rested people telling you that you can watch TV, eat, read, use your laptop, and do just about everything else from the comfort of your bed? With a tendency toward edema and poor circulation in my lower extremities, I became quite curious about this product and decided to go ahead and call the phone number on the TV ad.
When I called, I gave my address information and in a few days, an envelope arrived containing a brochure about the beds (which quoted nothing about the prices) and a pamphlet about getting better sleep. I still needed more information to decide if I wanted to purchase one of these beds.
Not long after, I received a phone call from the company asking if they could send a sales representative to my home. I thought, "OK, here we go with the sales pitch!" and at first I said no. They kept calling me back thereafter though. Since I wanted to know more, I eventually decided to allow the salesman to come for a visit.
The sales representative from Craftmatic was very pleasant and very knowledgeable about the product and professional in his presentation. He arrived with his briefcase full of information and a small TV for me to view a video presentation. He then asked to see the bed I was presently sleeping on to be able to measure it and show me how the traditional flat bed differed greatly from a Craftmatic.
After the pitch to convince me that the bed would be the wisest investment I have ever made in my life and that it would be also helpful to any existing medical conditions I have, we finally got down to brass tactics; the price!
Craftmatic products vary greatly in price, which depends largely on the features the customer chooses, such as heat and massage. There's the Monacco, which is the "Rolls Royce" of the Craftmatic line and the Craftmatic I, II and III models...the III model being the most inexpensive. The prices range anywhere from about $7,000 to $2,000. I eventually decided on the Craftmatic I, which is the most popular of the models. The sales representative said that 95% of customers choose that model. It is mid-ranged in price; about $4,000.
I do not regret choosing a Craftmatic and would recommend it to anyone; especially those who suffer from back pain, poor circulation, leg problems, and a whole host of other orthopedic discomforts. What I objected to greatly was the sales pitch. I would suggest that potential customers not invite a salesman to sell the product unless you are actually wanting to buy a bed at that point in time, rather than "just looking" or shopping around. I was presented with two choices in purchasing the bed. One was sort of a "Wait and See" type of plan which would freeze the price of the bed I chose for so many months and the other was a "Buy Right Now" plan which offered me lots of incentives to buy right out, such as a discount on the price and free gifts. At that time, I was due to move into a new apartment in the months ahead and not really planning on buying a bed right there and then. I resented being cornered into having to choose in that manner and not being told of the "catch" ahead of time, or else I would have waited until I was in my new apartment to have a representative visit me, so that I could take advantage of the discounts!
By all means, a Craftmatic is a good, sound investments. Just be careful of the sales pitch that goes along with it!
