The Bottom Line: This isn't for cleaning up the nails in your garage. It's more for cleaning up smaller household spills and serves that purpose very well.
groove1's Full Review: Craftsman 17776 Canister Wet/Dry Vacuum
I purchased one of these a year or so ago when Sears had them 50% off. The Sears website also allows you to order the product online and pick it up in store if they have it in stock, which they did. It has turned out to be a great little wet/dry vac. I was using a large ShopVac brand canister vacuum and while that machine works well, sometimes it is just to big to drag out for small jobs. Also, the ShopVac has four wheels, two of which had broke, so it became a little awkward to use. The Craftsman 2 gallon 1.5 horsepower vacuum has a flat bottom with no wheels.
The unit comes assembled except for having to hook the hose up, which is easy enough. The base of the machine is just under 15" tall and weighs just under seven pounds when empty, making it very easy to transport. The capacity of the base is two gallons which is more than needed for the purposes of this product.
The hose is very secure and has yet to come undone while I've been using it. It also comes with a car nozzle and a crevice attachment in addition to the regular hose. The hose is somewhat short at four feet, but this is a small machine designed for smaller around the house jobs and car cleaning so that is not a problem. The mouth of the hose is also a bit small at one and a quarter inches in diameter but that also usually is not a problem. The only thing that tends to get stuck in the hoses are pieces of paper or paper towel. The electrical cord is also a bit short at 10 feet, however this is fine for most household use. I do need to use an extension cord when vacuuming my car, but I would need one even with the larger machine anyway. Being able to use this to vacuum my car has also saved me a lot of money as it costs seventy five cents to a dollar to use most of the car wash vacuums.
As I stated previously, the base has a flat bottom with no wheels, which keeps the machine from tipping over, so there is no automatic shut off as with some of the larger wet/dry vacs. The unit also has a handle on top of the product which makes it very easy to carry. I use this vacuum mainly to vacuum around my birds' cage before using my other vacuum (or just for a quick cleanup around his cage). Due to its compact size and light weight, it easily stores in the closet and is easy to take out when needed. The unit comes with a one year warranty and I have had it for over a year without problem. Specs and additional reviews can be found on Sears' website at the following URL:
