Great Drill, Great Price

Pros:speed, power and durability
Cons:no hammer feature
The Bottom Line: A great drill for the weekend warrior

I would best be classified as the casual handyman around the house. My projects usually consist of light maintenance items on an 80 year old house. I previously owned a 7.2 volt Craftsman drill with one battery. For all but the smallest tasks that drill was a failure.

The 19.2 volt Craftsman Drill, on the other hand, has been a real asset. At @$79-89, it comes standard with an expandable zipper bag that is made of durable material and holds the drill, the charger, and its 2 batteries. In addition, the nice part about the bag is that there is also extra room for other items. When I need to work on a project I can load most everything I need from my workbench and be set to go for the day.

Charging is a simple process of clicking the batteries into the charging dock. On the charger the light changes from yellow to green when you have a full charge. I have found that this process is extremely quick, usually around one hour for full charge.

Once charged I have found that the batteries have excellent life span. In real world use, which is important, I have driven well over 200 screws into a fence I was building and in drywall I was hanging-all from one battery. In terms of power and torque, I have used a couple of 14 volt drills and this definitely lives up to its 19 volts in both speed and torque. The drill comes standard with a low and a high setting and a full 22 speeds within those settings to select from. I have certainly not needed as many settings as there are to choose from but its nice to know they are there. In real world use I have found that a medium 8-10 speed selection is adequate for most tasks, then I will go back and forth between the low and high setting depending on what I am drilling into. The chuck requires no key so there is no key to lose. Also, unlike a lot of drills I have used with keyless chucks, there doesn't seem a problem with slippage or opening under pressure.

As far as durability is concerned, I have dropped this drill on many occasions, a few times from a ladder and suffered no ill effects (except for broken drill bits). I have also used it where drywall dust almost turned it completely white and still no problems from the dust and debris.

The only downside of this drill, if any is that conventional drilling is all you are going to get from it. If you want to do any masonry drilling be sure to get an actual hammer drill (which this is not). I tried to use a masonry bit to accomplish hanging a tv on my fireplace and had no luck whatsoever penetrating even a quarter inch on any speed. Obviously this is not really the drill's fault, but do consider what you might be wanting in a drill before you decide which kind to purchase.

Overall I would say this drill has been an excellent choice for me and would probably be a good choice for any weekend warrior and most contractors as well.
