Craftsman 6.5 hp Gas Pressure Washer 580.767300 (Reply to this comment)
by xcraftsman
I purchased this washer last October, 2003 to refinish a deck. Worked great for 10 to 15 hours but then bolts that hold water side of pump sheared off. Took in to local Sears where I purchased and they repaired under warranty, no problem. Since the deck was almost finished at the first failure there has not been much usage on the repaired pump. Today, December 3rd, I used to wash out carport and again pump failed, this time on the piston side. Back to the store. This time I'm told the one year warranty is out and the first pump repair was only warranted for 90 days. Now I'm left with a pile of junk. Obviously the pump design is faulty. Would not buy this unit again!!

Hi,
Thanks for the great comment. I tried to give as much information as I could on this washer. I'm not a mechanically inclined person, but I tried to talk about my experiences. Thanks for the heads up on the spelling, and the comment.

Lots of good, general information. (Reply to this comment)

I'm beginning to search for a pressure washer and haven't found a lot of information about them yet. Even if I don't buy this particular pressure washer, this review pointed out some things to consider whatever brand I buy. His comparison to a second model was especially helpful.
The spell checker apparently converted "valve" to "value" though.

for a pressure-washer and believe I will have to act based on your recommendation, Kent. :)
We have light-gray siding here, and a moth problem. The moths plaster our front porch every night, then tuck themselves in under the siding. They also slam into the front wall and leave marks that don't wash off without lots of scrubbing. Ugh. :(
Not to mention, we have 500 feet of PVC fencing that needs brightening now and again ...
It's off to Sears I go! Thank you! I love to see dirt and grime simply fall off of things with these washers. Can't wait!

Tank Problem (Reply to this comment)
by seligrus
I really like this model and have been using it since July 2003 for light duty around the house. I just recently had a bad experience with the model 580.767301 fuel tank that had the potential for serious damage and injury.
I topped off the fuel tank and started the engine, after a few seconds I noticed a strong fuel smell and started to look around for the problem. I walked back around the unit to see a waterfall of fuel shimmering down the side of the tank onto the hot engine and pooling onto the deck assembly of the unit. I immediately turned the fuel shutoff valve to off and slid the throttle to the stop position. Lucky for me there was no fire or explosion, but the fuel was still running down over the engine. I spent the next few minutes running around the garage looking for a piece of hose to siphon the remaining fuel out of the units fuel tank and back into the fuel can that I used to top it off with in the beginning.
I drained the remaining fuel and thoroughly rinsed the unit off with water before looking for the leak. I found it on the side of the tank near the corner between the tank and shroud that contains the choke lever. My first thought was that maybe something struck the tank and damaged it, but the shape of the crack and the location of the crack made that seem unlikely because the damage was down between other components in a somewhat protected area. It looks as if the tank more than likely ruptured as a result of an over pressure from within rather than being struck from the outside. I store the unit with all the other lawn equipment in a 10 X 8 steel storage building that does get pretty hot in the Florida sun, and the makes me wonder if the fuel tank vent cap was not venting properly.
Has anyone else experienced any like this?

Thanks Mimi,
This one was so easy. I just used all my experiences from the start. I'm most proud of this one. I think original Epinions are the most fun. Look out Pogomom, and Mind-full.

Thanks for the kind words. I never used a pressure washer before I bought this one. Sears made it easy to assemble it, and use it. Its a great product, other than the hose placement.
Thanks Again, Kent

I'm planning on emailing Sears about the hose location. I may do as you say, and email the Epinions Review. I forgot to mention in review about the one year warranty, Thanks for the comments.

It's a shame about the hose. Did you notify them that you think it is in a bad position. Perhaps you could e-mail them your Epinion.
What kind of warranty does it have on it.
Susie, who always loves to know everything.

Great tips (Reply to this comment)

Your review was terrific for the person who's never used one of these before. I like it when I learn tips about a gadget that I will one day purchase.
I plan to purchase every gadget known to man when I retire. And a house with shop big enough to hold them all!
