Rated a Very Helpful Review
Pros:Durable, lightweight, well-constructed, easy to use, great safety features and many extras included at an excellent sale price.
Cons:Safety glasses not included.
This is actually a second part to my previous gift idea for Father’s Day. I decided this gift was entitled to a separate opinion because it is a completely different tool. Furthermore, I had to use it a few more times before I could write a meaningful review about an excellent constructed product, and currently at an unusually good sale price.

The Craftsman Table Saw is another well constructed power tool offered for the average homeowner handyman or handy women, from Sear’s. Once again it is currently on sale for a savings of $60 and sells for $188.00. The model number for this power tool is (137.218250) Specifications include; 2.7 HP, 15 amp, 120 Volts electrical hookup, 5000 R.P.M., 10” blade, maximum depth of cut at 90-degrees is 3-inches, maximum depth of cut at 45-degree is 2 ½-inches, maximum dado cut width is 1/2-inch. Furthermore, this Craftsman Table Saw comes with a Full One Year Warranty.
This saw comes partially assembled, so, very little expertise is needed to complete the assembly procedures. You will be required to assemble a leg stand, which puts the saw at a sufficiently high working level. Some other small parts need to be attached, but the directions are so easy to read they are a “piece of cake” to install.
The Craftsman table saw has the following features included as a total package. As I said, a stand to support the saw, 10-inch blade, a rip fence, blade guard with an anti-kickback feature, blade raising and lowering hand wheel, tilt blade hand wheel, miter guage(for specialty angle cuts), blade bevel scale, table extension and easy to learn instructions. In addition, a dado table insert is provided for the instances you may desire to perform dado cuts. Included within the Owners Manual are extremely easy to do instructions for performing many different cuts and utilizing the extras that came with the saw. Another feature that I’m particularly impressed with, is a template that’s provided for the purpose of constructing a “push stick.” This tool is highly recommended if you want to keep all of your 10 fingers intact. The “push stick” is a safety tool that’s required when pushing a very thin piece of wood through the saw blade. Also, remember to purchase safety glasses to protect your eyes, because none are furnished with this saw.
The performance of this table saw is comparable to the higher priced heavy duty equipment that’s also available, but my needs are not going to be that of a woodworking contractor or being heavily used everyday of the week, so this one will suffice. This particular saw will perform all of the necessary tasks associated with using a table saw, such as, bevel crosscutting, compound miter crosscutting, mitering, dado functions and rip cuts. What more do I need? Now, if I were Norm at the “Yankee Workshop,” I would be using the “top of the line” equipment and have every updated tool imaginable, right?
This table saw is very light weight. The base which fits onto a steel constructed set of leg braces is made of durable plastic. I know, I was quite amazed at the use of plastic together with steel and cast iron, which makes this saw so easy to move from one location to another. The plastic base has a mounting assembly which allows you to store the miter gauge and push stick. This is a nice convenient feature that normally without, would put your attachments in a different location then where the saw is setup.
Already, I’ve been utilizing this new piece of equipment to build little projects that have been sitting on my “to do list” for ages. What a difference a good piece of equipment will do for motivation in completing those pesky little projects and having fun at the same time. My wife and I are very happy with our new toys. We would definitely recommend the Craftsman Table Saw for anyone who enjoys puttering around the home. This power tool has completed our little workshop for now. If you want to experience the ease of woodworking with a very durable and easy to use piece of equipment, then this one is for you. We are already squabbling over who will get to use which toy next.
