Pros: Nice Utility Cutter that can be used by a home owner or gardener.
Cons: Care must be used, the blade is very sharp.
I receive a Craftsman Club flyer every month or so in the mail. I always take the time to look it over for bargains. Many times Sears puts items at half price, and the paper is filled with closeouts. This is how I ran across the Craftsman Handi-Cut # 3 7/8 Utility Cutter. It works so well I bought two of them, one for me, and one for my wife to use in her garden.
Features, and Facts.
What I got was an oversize set of scissors that is about 8 inches long. The Cutter weights a little over a pound, and comes with a spare stainless steel blade. The handle is made of vinyl, and fits your hand beautifully. There is a little compartment in the end of the handle for blade storage. Both the plastic bottom piece, and blade are easily replaceable, when they wear out. The cutter has a lock that makes storage safe and easy. While the blade and anvil are removable, the rest of the Cutter is guaranteed for life.
This Utility Cutter will cut a wide array of materials. They are meant to be used for things previously left to Utility Knives. Believe me, these Cutters are a lot safer to use. Materials easily cut with the Handi-Cut include:
Thin pieces of Wood
Vinyl, and Vinyl Tile
The Kitchen Sink (Just kidding, although it seems like it.)
Observations and Experiences.
I have used these Cutters to cut at least half of the above mentioned items. They performed so well, that I went back, and bought a second set that week for my wife. Just a bit of background about my wife, she is very, very hard on tools. She thinks tools are made of granite, and can be use for any purpose she sees fit. A hammer becomes a screwdriver, or a screwdriver becomes a hammer. What ever she has in her hand at the time is her tool of choice even it there is no way it will work. Well shes been using these Cutters for more than 3 months, and raves about them to everyone. Also there is not a scratch on them, something that I cant say for me when I try to help her. So on her recommendation, and mine, I wholeheartedly say Sears did a great job with this tool. Keep your eyes open, and you can get them for half price like I did. You wont be sorry.
The blade on this Cutter is very, very sharp. It may appear as harmless as a pair of scissor, but demands a lot of caution by the user. Even if you just touch the blade, it is sharp enough to break skin.
