Pros: Awsome tone and sound for its price. GREAT PROCE.
Cons: Distorts a bit at high volumes, ( every amp does ) everything is great otherwise.
The Crate GX-65 is alot more than I thought it would be. At the price I paid, just over $320, I was expecting less from this amp. Boy was I suprised!
I use a Gibson Les Paul Studio with this amp, and let me just say this, I never thought playing a $1200 guitar into a $320 amp would sound so good. They sound simply fantastic together. Amazing deep sound along with screeching highs, it sounds wonderful.
The Crate GX-65's features are well worth the money alone! First of all, 65 watts of rumble is what this amp will give you. It's equipped with a 3 band equalizer for the clean channel, and a two band equalizer for the distortion channels. Yes, TWO distortion channels. One will give you a crisp crunch sound while the other channel gives you deep, and I mean DEEP, rock distortion. There is also a "shape" control for the second distortion channel that will allow you to deside how much crunchy sound you want, to how low and deep you want it to be. The clean channel sounds awsome as well. The three band eq will let you tweek the sound to the amps best. The other features include, an effects loop out, ( y adapter needed ), and an extension speaker output if desired. I have a 300 watt ext. cab hooked up to mine it this amp can still power that baby! The REVERB has its own volume knob, and sounds great between 1-6. After 6, it tends to muffle the sound a bit, making it hard to hear the actual guitar. But you can still get alot of clean reverb before 6. The 3 button footswitch activates distortion channel 1, distortion channel 2, and the reverb.
This amp is pretty heavy duty and reliable. Nothing has ever went wrong with the amp, and trust me, its been played at some pretty loud volumes the past two years.
I play all styles of music you can think of, heavy, rock, jazz, classical, and even some blues, and this amp sounds great with all of it.
You'd be suprised how loud 65 watts can get. Just for example, I've had the volume knob on four, out of ten , and this thing sounded like it was givin the max volume on other 65 watt amps. Just wait till you flip that volume control up to 9 or even 10. The house will be shak'in from that 1, 12 inch speaker.
This amp sounds great really in any setting. Its been played in gyms from schools, in bedrooms, basements, garages, and its great all of the time.
Weighing about 35 pounds, this amp is versatle. It goes with you anywhere, even in the trunk of your sports car. Yes, it will fit.
At only about $300, this amp holds great sound, portability, great features, and more.
