Taking care of young children in my home is a most satisfying and interesting experience. There is no end to the wonderful things I learn as I care for and teach children from birth to 12 years.
Of course in caring for children there is a need for a huge arsenal of art supplies. Watching children express themselves through many different mediums is a delight and I am always on the look-out for something new and different for them to do.
Recently I discovered Crayola Window Markers 8 Count. I was surprised to learn that these markers have actually been around a while. I don't know how I missed them, but I, and the children I care for are very glad that I've found them!
The 8 colors that I purchased came in the familiar Crayola marker type of box with the words Window Markers written in large letters across an orange background. I was glad to see the word Window so large, making it easy to spot them and also making sure that people don't accidentally pick these up for regular markers.
The 8 colors included are; Window White, Sunny Yellow, Opaque Orange, Glistening Green, Vivid Blue, Radiant Rose, Shady Brown and Smoky Slate. Each marker is 5" long with a 2" cap that shows the color of the marker.
How Do They Work?
I was really curious how the colors would come out on the windows and if the shades would be bright enough to be seen from the street. While the shades are very true to the color on the cap, the fine point end on these markers makes them a little difficult for younger children to get a lot of color in one spot.
The school agers that I have in my care have a great time outlining and then filling in their drawings. These drawings are much more visible and the colors pop a bit more although they do have more of an opaque look to them and aren't as bright as the paints we've used on the windows.
The markers are easy to use and they are easy to clean up too. I use a baby wipe to first clean the drawing off of the window and then follow up with windex to get the window clean for the next art project.
I was a bit concerned how these markers would come off of the windows because the afternoon sun shines on them and I was afraid that might make it ‘set' on the window too much, but this wasn't a problem. Projects that were left for a time came off as easily as those that were drawn and erased right away. The colors don't seem to fade either, so the art projects stay the colors that the children want them to be.
I was also concerned with how these markers would come off of the white windowsill that surrounds the window, but they seem to come off fairly effortlessly as long as the marks are cleaned up soon after using. I haven't left any on the sills for a long time to see how easily it is removed after that, and surprisingly I haven't found a spot that we've missed....yet.
These markers are washable and come off of the children's hands easily as well. We haven't had it get on their clothes, so I can't say how it comes off of clothing.
Our Feelings
These markers are fun for window scribbling for younger children and are a great way for my older school agers to get creative in a new way. Dani is my youngest (other than an infant who isn't drawing yet) at almost 4 and she absolutely loves using these markers. She creates scenes such as she did this morning, an octopus, sun, clouds, flowers and the moon and loves showing her mom when she picks up all that she has created.
I have 14 windows in our playroom, so finding a window to color isn't a problem for us. Not only are they great for windows but they also write on mirrors so leaving a You Are Beautiful or I Love You message for the children (or hubby) to find during the day when they use the restroom is quick and easy too.
Since these markers are non toxic, have beautiful shades to use, clean easily and help encourage children to be creative and provide hours of fun for such a minimal price of under $3.00 I very highly recommend them!
Today, 9-9-09 is Epinions 10th Epiversary. I've been a member for a few months less than that, having joined in February 2000. Epinions has been the reason I've lost so much sleep...choosing to get up much earlier than I have to in order to read and rate reviews from some of my favorite reviewers and of course to find new writers to read as well. Epinions has allowed me to practice my writing skills, make new friends and earn a bit of money too. Happy Birthday Epinions!!
