| Lisa_J's Full Review: Crayola 96 Crayons |
An annual tradition for both girls occurs in late August. This is when we face the fact that fall is arriving, back-to-school will transpire and most certainly
it is school shopping time! Well
confession time
yikes
well
okay
I adore back to school supplies. This fascination started when I was a child and knew I wanted to be a teacher when I grew up. It was all my Mother could do to peel me from the aisles. And now
petty the poor soul that may happen to be with me when the local stores have the school stock-up compiled. The pencils, pens, papers, notebooks, and
and
and
THE CRAYONS!
Yes, I adore new crayons. I even like the smell! Opening the top off a box of CrayolaŽ Crayons and peeking in onto the fine pointed tops, and taking a sniff. Yeah
baby! Okay, perhaps I am exaggerating some. Or maybe not
the jury is still out. *lol*
One thing is certain, accept no substitute for CrayolaŽ! There is a difference, and no other compare in quality. So, every fall, my girls receive a brand new CrayolaŽ 96 Crayons ! The remaining snubs are dumped into a bin that we use for other art projects.
At a young age both of my girls would quote a variety of color names when asked what their favorite color was. I watched the face of innocent bystanders, as they would ask, What is your favorite color? and
Receive a reply of:
Mulberry
Periwinkle
Magenta
Turquoise
Mauvelous
It seemed obscure to some that a three-year-old didnt merely reply:
Pink
Red
Purple
Green
No, not our girls, perhaps a portion has to do with their Moms new crayon obsession or for the adoration of multiplicity of colors for scrapbooking, or it could be because their Father was frequently quoting car-paint colors. Whatever the reason, I have no objection!
When our youngest took her pre-entrance exam for Kindergarten, they were asked to identify colors. The chart was a very poor color copy. Marisa was not impressed. When shown the brown, and asked what color she stated, looks like mud! The teacher obtained an actual brown CrayolaŽ crayon, marked a line and then received a meek, brown answer. She proceeded to show her orange and red. Marisa indicated orange for orange. But
when shown red, she sighed and said, I suppose you want me to say red, cause I already said orange, but that really isnt red!
Back to the CrayolaŽ mention. I meant it when I stated to accept no substitute! It has been my experience working with children for twenty plus years that all others are inferior. They break easy, have poor color representation, or dont fill in well with color application.
We rejoice in color time. Yes, you really will find all four of us using our CrayolaŽ Crayons! I have taught the girls to use different motions when coloring for a variety of fill presentations. If you swirl the crayon in tiny circles as you color, you receive less white area. I have showed them that by outlining the inner area to be colored you might stay in the lines better. We also experiment with outlining in a darker color or contrast and shade the inner lighter. Another fun way to fill in the desired area is with stripes or various colors. And believe me with the CrayolaŽ 96 Crayons you have v-a-r-i-e-t-y!
Whatever your hue preference, you are sure to receive a fix in the 96 count box. And at $4.99, why not go for more?! Oh, and in case of breakage, clearing mail tape applied around the wound works well! Need a better point? No problem! At the rear of the box is an included sharpener.
They are certified non-toxic, but I wouldn't recommend eating them. In case of the occasional nibble, your child will be fine. Considering that one CrayolaŽ is "macaroni and cheese" this attribute is probably a good feature.
