Although she showers in the morning, most evenings my youngest daughter likes to take a bath. This is especially true on the evenings in which she has been at the dance studio for 1 – 3 hours. The warm water provides a good unwind time and relaxes her muscles. She has various tub toys, including some dolls and a few Barbie’s that are water safe. Recently, during a trip to Wal-Mart, we happened upon Crayola Bathtub Crayons, and some other Crayola bath time products. I thought about the many attempts that children make to use regular crayons on the walls within homes, and smiled with regard to the unique concept of allowing them to color on tub walls. If you have read my other kids and family reviews, than it is likely you realize the adoration that our family maintains for art products, especially Crayola. When Missy asked for the set, I smiled and agreed to the purchase.
Initially I was concerned with regard to longevity of the crayon, what would happen if the colors were submerged in water, and I was concerned with regard to potential of skin rash. My concerns were rapidly extinguished, and after several tub crayon sessions, I am pleased to extend a high recommendation with regard to the Crayola Bathtub Crayons.

The Crayola Bathtub Crayons set includes 6 colors:

These colors are “non-toxic, certified AP, & conform to ASTM D-4236.” Carton instructions advise to test a crayon on a small area of the tub, prior to allowing your child to use them. Warning is issued that stains may occur if tub/shower is older or “in poor condition.”
Recommended for ages 3 and up.
How The Crayons Work and Personal Opinion
Each Crayola Bathtub Crayon is approximately 2” in length, and housed within a plastic shaft that brings the overall length to approximately 3 ˝”. The plastic housing has a white click mechanism, that when depressed and pushed upward, moves the crayon out the end of the plastic. Each setting moves the crayon approximately 3/8”, and there are 6 settings. If you happen to move the crayon more than desired, you can move the color back.
Coloring with the Crayola Bathtub Crayons are simple, and each color is easy to hold, even with wet hands. The girls have a tub/shower unit in their bathroom. Marisa likes to sit in the water, using the walls of the tub/shower unit as her canvas. After the bath session, we sit the crayons on a paper towel, allowing them to air dry. Clean up of the tub is quick. Marisa uses a wash cloth to wipe away her creations. No residue is left on the tub, and the cloth launders clean.
The first evening that she was using them, I was on the phone with my friend Kara. She was literally laughing at the thought of crayons intended for the tub, and took the opportunity to tease me. Kara just couldn’t grasp the point of drawing on the bathtub, and razzed me with regard to setting myself up for a future nudist camp prospect. Remembering that she has to battle her son to bathe, I stated that, “At least my Nude Artist is Coming Clean!” So we joked some more, and closed the conversation. A week later, guess who purchased a set of Crayola Bathtub Crayons? Kara did!
The main reason that I like the Crayola Bathtub Crayons, is because they provide an additional creative outlet. My daughter has created incredible pictures, complete with sentences to compliment, and really enjoys using them. She has used these crayons (and tub time) to practice math facts and spelling words.

One Crayola BathTub Tints Packet is included with this set. The small foil package contains three “fizzy water coloring tablets.”

To activate you drop one – or more – of these tablets into the warm tub water, allow it to dissolve, coloring the bath water.
Ingredients (as per label): Sodium Bicarbonate, Citric Acid, Mannitol, Polyethylene Glycol, Sodium Benzoate, Mineral Oil, FD&C Blue, FD&C Yellow 5, D&C Red 33.
Recommended for ages 3 and up.
Although my daughter likes the ‘colored water’ I am slightly uneasy about them. However, Marisa has not experienced any rash or discomfort, so I have not objected to her using them, and did agree to purchase more.
