| Freak369's Full Review: Crayola Click Em On Washable Markers |
Crayola products are known for two things in this house inspiring my kids to express their creative side and the fact that they are, for the most part, non-toxic. This past Christmas I received these as a gift from a great friend. Apparently this person knew about my closet Crayola fascination and decided to indulge me with a set of these unique markers. Id previously purchased these but game them away thinking Id be able to find them with no problem. Unfortunately I was unable to locate them at my local Target or Wal-Mart since they either hadnt received them yet or they were completely sold out.
The Basics
If youve never seen these markers you are in for a real treat. Stemming from the regular thin tipped washable markers, these have a one of a kind interlocking design on the caps and bases. One side of the marker has an external type thread that the smaller ball joints fit into, this alternates from marker to marker. Once the ball joint is inserted into the chamber you will hear a clicking sound letting you know that it is properly placed. From there you can move the two markers in any number of directions to create a design, make a cube or interlock them side by side the way they come when you first remove them from the package. There are a ton of different combinations you can try and if you purchase several packs you can make larger, more detailed designs.
The boys had a great time playing with these and for a few minutes I was afraid that these would disappear off my desk like so many other pens, markers and gadgets have in the past. One of the coolest things they did was connect them side by side, the way they come when you first buy them, and make a loop out of them. This is probably the best way to store them outside of the provided plastic case since you can press them flat but still have them connected to each other. If you have a problem keeping track of markers or seem to always be missing the color you need the most, I really suggest that you give these a try. Youll be able to keep them locked together so youll never have to hunt for the color you need.
The Crayola Click Em On markers are the same size as the regular thin tip markers and are a great size for younger kids to work with. One thing that is really nice about these is that the caps can be attached to the tops of the markers to youll never have to worry about them getting lost or misplaced. These have a suggested retail price of $3.29 - $3.99 and while these prices are more than you would have to pay for the regular thin point markers, you are getting to cool Crayola Click Em On design.
The Colors
I was really impressed with the colors that these markers come in. The colors include black, tan, pink, red, orange, yellow, lime green, forest green, blue and purple. This is a really nice assortment of colors and will provide you or your child with hours of creative fun. There has been talk of other color lines coming out in the near future if the Click Em On line takes off and I really hope that Crayola decides to go ahead with adding other color sets.
Things To Know
These markers are thin tipped but they will wear down if a lot of pressure is put on them. If you are looking for something that will allow you to get into corners or small areas you might want to check out the Super Fine Tip markers from Crayola because these will give you more control. These thin tipped markers are great for lettering, coloring in small areas and general doodling.
These markers are non-toxic so you wont have to worry about any nasty or harsh chemicals getting on your childs skin or if he or she decides to see if they taste as good as they look. One of my boys suffers from extremely sensitive skin and has allergic reactions to certain laundry detergents, hand soaps and cleaning products. With him I have to make sure that he uses nothing but Crayola products since these seem to be the only ones that dont agitate his skin. After he managed to get more of the ink on his hands than on the paper I was curious to see [and a little nervous] if all the ink would come off and if his skin would be red or irritated. Thankfully his hands were just fine after washing them for a few minutes and using a finger brush to get the ink out from around his nails.
You have to make sure that you really press the caps on to the markers firmly or there is a chance that youll end up with dry markers or caps coming off at the wrong times, like in a purse or backpack. You should hear a loud click when the cap is pushed completely back on to the marker if you dont hear a click keep on pressing. Smaller kids might have trouble getting the caps back on so youd be wise to double check the markers when they are done using them.
The washable factor is the same as all the other Crayola markers. Read the back of the package for all the details about removing the ink from clothing but here is the mini version. Wash the clothing promptly in hot water and dont use a pre-wash stain remover [like Shout or Spray N Wash] or chlorine bleach. Crayola says that the ink will wash out of most cotton, polyester, nylon and acrylic fabrics but since I havent tried this out I cant say how effective their claim is. With other Crayola markers Ive never had a problem getting the stains out but cant say either way about the Click Em On version.
The Bottom Line
Overall these are great markers that are a lot of fun to play with. The only real issue I have with these is the fact that you really need to apply a lot of pressure to get the caps back on. The interlocking bases and tops are sturdy and will stand up to a lot of use. My boys really liked these markers and I am hoping to find a few more sets for them to use. I hope Crayola listens to the feedback of their customers and adds additional colors sets to their line. Even though this set comes with ten very vibrant colors, you can never have enough markers - or colors!
