These markers sound like a dream, don't they? Mess free, they will not color on anything other than the special "waxy" paper that Crayola sells specifically for them. Wow! A mother's dream come true! No more marker streaks on the kids' arms, feet, mouths, cheeks, or walls!
The initial set you get comes with five markers: Green, Blue, Red, Black, and Yellow. Do they work, you ask?
Actually, yes, I do believe Crayola has performed a feat of magic with these truly magic markers. You write and draw on this special paper and the marker doesn't turn color until it soaks into the paper a few seconds later. If little Johnny drops his marker without its cap on, there won't be a large black streak across your white carpeting. Of course, if you even have a "little Johnny" with white carpeting in your house, you either have much more fortitude than I ever thought a parent ever could ... or you're nuts.
Either way, your children will not be able to have "marker" fights with these puppies. No red fingers or black streaks across their little shirts!
My son, age four, loves these markers. He was enthralled with the idea that he can write on anything other than the paper and nothing happens, then, Viola! you write on the paper and it magically appears.
However! -- I am not entirely sure how these little "invisible" streaks of marker are going to look after a few years of the aging process. My walls may turn yellow after a while, I don't know...Crayola doesn't say anything in regard to the actual contents and whether or not the ingredients will turn funny colors later on if used on other items besides the paper. And, believe me, your child will attempt to write on anything and everything with these "invisible" markers, just to see if they can cheat fate. So, until my walls or my son's clothes turn funny colors, I have to give this item a two thumbs up for creativity and low mess factor for parents.
One last item I want to mention, though, is that I really hope Crayola makes these markers a bit brighter in the future. The yellow marker isn't bright at all and is very hard to see even on the white paper. Don't expect Neon colors with these. The Blue is quite bright, the Red is a bit duller, Yellow non-existent, the Green is more like a pine-green than grass-green, and the black is more dark-gray.
For simple creative projects, this set is perfect, however, and I would still recommend this set above all others as far as ease, price, and mess-factor.
