I am a computer enthusiast, and have done hours and hours of
research between video cards. I purchased this card and a
voodoo3 3000 last year, and returned the 3000 shortly after.
The CL TNT2ultra is a very fast video card for all of your needs.
Although newer cards such as the Geforces are leading the pack,
this card still packs a punch.
One major advantage to the TNT2 is the fact that it has been around
for a long time, so drivers are VERY stable now. Also, the TNT2's
don't suffer from the 'power' problems that some geforce's had
with athlon motherboards.
Quality and Performance:
I play many different games and run several different graphics
applications (including quake3, rogue spear, need for speed 5,
adobe photoshop, 3dsmax, more).
With this card and the current games, I can comfortably run just
about any game at 1280x1024 @ 16bit color with no slow-down
whatsoever. The image quality is great, keeping up with the
matrox g400 that I have tested out.
I chose the Creative Labs card over the other brands for 2 main reasons:
1) driver support - creative does a pretty good job of keeping their
drivers updated.
2) TV output - this is one of the few TNT2u cards that have a tv output!
3) the creative card is very compatible with the detonator reference
drivers (see below).
* This card can be optimized using Detonator reference drivers.
These are drivers designed for the reference design, so they are
optimized to run graphics better than the vendor drivers.
I have had no problems with this card at all. My only complaint about
it is the fact that newer cards keep coming out that are faster and
faster. However, I have had this card now for a year and have no
plans on changing it - there is no need for it just yet.
Overall, the CL TNT2u is a great card for anyone looking to upgrade
their system without spending a lot of money. The card can be
acquired for around $120.
