Pros: Huge storage capacity, easy to use interface, comes with everything needed for use
Cons: very short & limited warranty, costs a lot to get it looked at by creative
The Bottom Line: Glad I bought it but not happy that it could have been a very expensive paperweight if I hadn't put out another $180.

| meetvirginia's Full Review: Creative Technology Nomad Jukebox (20 GB) MP3 Play... |
I bought the Creative Nomad for my roommate as a christmas gift. I knew this would be the perfect gift for her and would hopefully help her get rid of all the cd's, tapes and even albums she's not willing to part with.
I ordered it at a reputable online store and I was so impressed when it arrived with everything needed to use it in the box. No trip to Radio Shack needed after buying this product. It comes with earbuds, a cassette adapter, a carrying case and batteries that will recharge themselves while in the unit as long as the plug is plugged in.
I immediately went to work copying her favorite cd's onto the unit (I didn't want to give her a product she couldn't just turn on and use), and was again amazed at how effortlessly the music was added to the Jukebox. I found the software incredibly easy to use and could walk away while it was uploading without worry. Of course, it was completing songs within about 10 seconds, so leaving it would mean it would be finished an entire cd before I came back to it.
After Christmas though, my roommate was very busy and did not use the Jukebox often. A few months later she went back to use it and was not able to turn it on. It was completely dead and smelled of burning plastic. We tried everything, including ordering new batteries and supplies from the Creative website but nothing worked and everytime it was plugged in or had batteries inserted, it would burn very hot and smell awful. I contacted Creative customer service and was told the unit, after only 90 days was out of warranty and I would have to pay to ship it to them plus $80 for them to even look at it.
I went through the RMA process and sent out the unit. Two weeks later I was told the unit would need a replaced board or something and that would cost another $100.
There was no bargaining with Creative. We explained that the unit was barely used and it was obviously a manufacturers defect, but it was either pay or don't play. We paid the money after deciding that paying over $480 for a paper weight was worse than paying $580 for a working unit.
The unit has been shipped back and is in good working condition. It is a powerful Jukebox and I can't see that it will ever need to be upgraded so I do still see it as a good investment, even though Creative should have stood behind it's product. I highly recommend it.
