| ferrari18boy's Full Review: Creative Technology Nomad Jukebox (20 GB) MP3 Play... |
In today's digital music world, there is really no reason not to have an mp3 player if you are willing to spend a couple hundred clams. But I recently purchased the Nomad Jukebox 3 and wow, did it ever impress me.
The Size
Let me get the only factor than can be negatively criticized out of the way. The Nomad Jukebox 3 is the exact size of a CD player which isn't really big at all. It is larger than most other MP3 players, but not by much. The size in my opinion, is overshadowed by everything else that makes up this magnificent device.
The Sound
Well the most important factor when buying an MP3 player is of course, the sound quality. No one wants to be listening to fuzzy, static filled, low grade music. The Nomad Jukebox 3 doesn't just play music, it enhances it. Every song I downloaded to my player seemed come alive. The music was more crisp, clear, and solid than it ever was on my computer. Which happens to be saying a lot, since I have a very expensive 5 satellite speaker, 2 subwoofer setup from cambridge soundworks on my pc. The bass is especially impressive. I happen to really enjoy when listening to my rap songs on my Nomad Jukebox 3. As we all know, when dealing with rap or R&B. bass is especially important. The bass sustains the beat, and the Nomad would make Dr. Dre and Eminem very proud. There are no moving parts in this MP3 player, so there is no skipping of songs. Each song can be listened and enjoyed fully. Every type of music is on my MP3 player(except country, it is a sad excuse for music). I have Bach, Brahmes, and Bethoven to Nirvana, Stone Temple Pilots, and Pearl Jam. And every area of music sounds equally as perfect as the next.
Equalizer FX
Let's say you are listening to your favorite classical composer(Brahmes), and you feel that you really want to get the feeling like you are in a real concert hall. Well, head over to the Equalizer section, and simply select "concert hall". Right then and there you are transported to a concert hall, the music immediately transforms into an a perfectly accurate sound which would be experienced in a concert hall. There a variety of other environments to choose from on the menu. You can even choose "bathroom" if you are so inclined. You can adjust the bass, treble, and all that good stuff, not that anyone would really need to do so. A very nice equalizer to say the least.
Navigation
This is what truly seperates this genius instrument from the rest. The navigation is superior to any other MP3 player. Music is put in alphabetical order of course, and you can put your music into files if you wish to do so. The genius part it the jogger Nomad puts on the side of the device. It is very similar to the scrolling button you would find on a higher quality mouse of for you computer. The button lets you easily scroll through all of your songs very quickly which is a neccesity seeing as how you get 20 gb of music on the Nomad. There is a "back" button, which is an arrow pointing away from the screen to get back to the previous menu. Also, to get to your music quickly, there is a "search" feature which works just like the search on any computer. Also, you can get the specifics of any song file using this button. The button will help you find out how long the song is, how much of the song has elapsed, and the storage capacity the Nomad takes up. Moreover, there is a a great neon blue backlight for night time. You can also use the green backlight, but it is sort of lame. Another great feature as far as functionality goes are the volumes buttons which are right on top. On some other MP3 players you have to navigate to a menu to change volume. The Nomad makes it very easy to adjust anything you want, from which song is playing to the specific characteristics of each song.
Battery Life
The Nomad Jukebox 3 has magnificent battery life. The batteries last for 12 hours. Moreover, there is an extra slot for an additional battery which will give you 10 more hours of music. 22 hours of music is more than enough for anybody before needing to recharge. The only downside to the battery aspect of the Nomad is that additional batteries must be ordered directly from Creative labs who is the manufacturer of all the Nomads.
Versatility
The Nomad Jukebox 3 can be hooked up to virtually anything. You can combine it with your home stereo and have the music blast out those big speakers on your shelf, or connect it to your PC and let it play while writing your Epinions! So when you are buying this device, you are really buying the last music player you will ever need.
FIRE WIRE!!!!
With 20gb of storage capacity, and normal USB cable would, which does happen to hook up to this unit, would take 3 minutes each song. It is very very sloooooow. But with the additional firewire port on this device, each song takes literally 1 second to put on the Nomad. I got my whole music collection, about 14 gb of music, on the Nomad in under an hour.
In short, if you want the absolute best quality music and functionality, than the JukeBox 3 is your choice.
